Link Building: High quality, relevant links

Thanks for all those who helped yesterday, I appreciate it. I've just been reading:

It places your link in the content body and not in any off-the-focus location

Does this mean it's better to have your link in the content, rather than in an author's bio, for example? If yes, why is this?
 
Pagerank - look for Pagerank add-ons. Sites with higher Pagerank are better (on a scale of 1-10)
DA - minimum 40
Alexa score - gives you an idea of traffic the site has. For example, a site with an Alexa score below 1000 means it has strong traffic.


After checking quality metrics, it becomes easier to identify the best targets for guest blogging. Below are some more points to consider:
  • It should contain an authoritative link profile
  • The blog should be relevant to your niche
  • It should relate to your blog or website
  • The blog’s content should be highly informative and of superior quality
  • Make sure the blog can drive qualified traffic
  • It places your link in the content body and not in any off-the-focus location
  • It should have genuine subscribers (Read: not bots)
  • It should have a decent number of followers over social media (again, not bots)
The above is what I've identified to target. Can anyone recommend any free extensions for Pagerank or Alexa (or any other tools for traffic estimation)? I've got the DA already, using the SEO Moz Toolbar.

First of all, I use Moz to determine if the authority of the site is high or low. Afterwards, though, I always check the domain with Majestic, as it will reveal the quality of the domain's backlinks and the amount of referring domains it has.

Never trust Moz's spam score, as sometimes it will say the domain is free of spam, but it truly isn't.
 
Don't bother with pagerank. It's not public anymore.

When I'm doing a quick look at a site, I look for:

Niche relevant
DA 30+
Monthly traffic >500

You can check these really quick with the serpworx plugin.

Then I'll check the most recent articles:

< 3 OBL per 500 word article
Not spun


Once I find some sites I like, then I'll dig deeper into their backlink profile, old articles, and check it out on wayback machine.

Never used Majestic, what's it used for?

OBL is outbound links = the number of links going out of a site.


Dude, most of this stuff is basic, just take time to read on here, all the answers are already available.

Thanks, appreciate it. It's basic for someone who's been doing it for a while, sure. I'm spending a lot of time reading.

I did some reading, which is where I got the above criteria from, just wanted other people's thoughts on what they look for.

There's a lot of terminology such as OBL, TF, CF, DR, RD, DA, PA etc etc.
Some people go with purely Moz, others purely Majestic, others SemRush others Ahrefs and some use a mix of any or all of these.

There's a nice tool on here by @jimbobo2779 called DomDetailer which is worth checking out.

Thanks, looks great. And a fairly inexpensive option. Although it doesn't look like it has estimated traffic? Have messaged to find out.

Unless there's a proxy/ different field I can use. Thanks for the help :)

It depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking to improve domain metrics, then DA 15+ is good. If you are looking for high DA niche backlinks, then look for 25/30+DA domains only.

Majestic reveals the real quality of backlinks.
