Link building for a website with multiple pages (noob)

Is it ever necessary to build more than one link pyramid for a single website? For example for a website with more than one page (targeting more or less the same keyword), would you need to do tiered link building for each page, or would it be sufficient to just build links to the homepage?

My situation is that I am new to IM and SEO and am planning to build my first MNS for amazon. I will have different articles about a particular product that will be used on different pages. I am wondering if building links to the homepage alone will be sufficient for all the articles to rank highly in google (assuming i've done the on site ad off site seo properly)..?

It's really not recommended to have all your pages target the same keyword. That's one way to hit an overoptimization penalty.
My advice is to find a few other keywords and do onpage SEO for them on different pages. Not because it's going to get ranked for those necessarily (although it's wise if they're low competition), but because otherwise it gets fairly obvious you're doing SEO.
Building links should look natural and natural link profiles have links to pages, other than the homepage. In practice, I've seen good results with just building links to homepage only, but keep in mind that things change.

The way I just designed my MNS site, I have 1 page for each product category. For example If I am targeting the keyword car accessories and I have the following three categories on my website, then I will build them like:

home page - kw car accessories - linking to the following pages:

url1 - kw car speakers
url2 - kw car amplifiers
url3- kw car stereos

I list all products of each category on their respective page. For example, if car speakers has 20 different speakers, I will divide them into sections and list them all on the same URL. For reviews I make a single page for each category, and use another related keyword as the main keyword on the review page. I don't write reviews for all of the products, only the top ones. The rest I just list with some info on the main product category page with a link to amazon.

If you make a new page for each review, you will need a few different keywords in the same category and it will be a lot of work to rank all of those pages. I went this particular route to save on SEO costs and time, plus this way I get single pages with a lot of content, about 2000 words each and I target 2 main keywords for each category plus a bunch of long tails.

Sounds like your structure is ok. But i think the answer is yes - if you have multiple pages targeting different keywords, then you need to build pyramid to each one of those pages as a separate link building project.

You won't receive a penalty if you use different properties for each backlinking structure. Be sure to do that as well as vary the amount of time between building them, the amount of links in each of them, the types of properties in each of them, etc, etc.

Keep each structure very random and you'll be fine.
