1) Post amount
2) Account age

Example would be:

1) if less than 100, posting delay [15min]
post 0-25 = 15 | 25-50 = 7 | 50-100 = 3 mins of delay between posting

2) if account age is less than a month, delay = amount

Just as an FYI, I liked the post above mine because it's a hilarious irony...

You've also got to look at the flip side - when people find a forum like ours people have a LOT of questions that they may finally find an answer to.

I like the idea of limiting but looking at applying those limits to members that end up with infractions instead of hitting all newbies hard.

15 mins? Why though?

Surely this will just stop people wanting to post on here.

I think it's better for newbies to really get into the forum, meet people quickly, learn things quickly, etc.

Otherwise it'll take too long to build relationships and learn.

Kindly tell the admins delete this account of yours and then you make a new one with these rules imposed!

Hope you felt good now?

Some valid points in the suggestion but from a Mod point of view we see some new folks that come in here with a crap load of questions, thoughts and really want to connect and we also get the spammers who are here to game the system.

I'm not entirely sure how that would work although I am sure Damien and the techies could implement that but on the other hand it may chase people who are new and want to hit the ground running.

We do, as team members on the staff, try to eliminate those that are here to game the system and take advantage of the community and it is sometimes unclear with some new folks and with others it is so obvious we have to punch ourselves in the neck.

As usual, your thoughts are welcome, @BbHhWwVM.

One system you’ll can try is Reddit, whenever I try to post continuously or send message a lot a automatic 8 or some approx minutes kick in, we could use something like that here put a limit if a new user posts continuously in 10 minutes allow 1 - 3 times

My example was too heavy with 15 min, but some other algorithm might be worth of testing. The Staff will know the best answer to this.

The idea is to prevent nervous and frustrated newbies (no matter of ban later) to don't spam posting threads for a half an hour. Same goes for other spammers and spamming in general.

So, the algorithm could be set to start if newbie post a thread 2 times in a row, no matter if duplicated.
The same could be applied if posting comments too quickly. Too fast could be under 30 seconds.
From there, temp ban could be auto-issued for a period of 120-180 seconds.

This could also be set to be working on a level 2.
System would easily note and recognize who is the real spammer here, and knock him down with huge 10min of delay, he would exit BHW till then:)

@NawtyBoy the last thing I'm looking for is to hurt anybody, this is just a constructive dialog.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I kind of like the egalitarian nature of post quality on open forums and, as always caveat emptor.

Yeah for me, I think just because you are a newbie, doesn't mean you're gonna post nonsense and vice versa. Limiting newbies, means they will spend longer as a newbie too - which sounds... Odd...

A better suggestion would be limiting the number of posting (threads) to 1 in an hour for newbies. That would prevent spam for sure.

For replies 10 in an hour seems fine.

One day I found the forum blasted with spammy threads from a bot, if the above conditions were imposed that would've been prevented easily.

God bless BHW.

All are not newbies many of them banned members which one can notice easily, look something has to be acted on and it's high time we do it now!

2020 is fast approaching and the plan should be how to avoid more shitlist threads don't you think?

IMHO, something like this could be there. It doesn't have to be that tight but, rate limiting to 2-3 minutes per post will remind them of the rules. Just let them post freely after they have stayed here for a week.

it's annoying but maybe to decrease the server load charge !

IMO Staff should never update or publish anything related to this subject.

The best way to go is:

A script that follows all free membership accounts. (no matter if newbie or 2009 account)
When the user publishes thread or reply there should be an amount of time before user can post again.
If user post another thread or reply too quickly.... Bam (level 1 = small 2-3 min ban, if kept going again in the last 24 hours = level 2 = 10-15min ban)

@BassTrackerBoats Hey mate, please lock this thread if you think that's fine.

Thank you, and everyone.

I have been on a few forums that had time limits between opening new threads. I think any limitation should only be placed on new threads, not posts to existing threads.

Even if a newbie has a ton of questions, making them wait 5 minutes between new threads will prevent duplicate posts and make then think out the question in detail rather than many one sentence questions.

Will also help cut down on the dumb promotional spam. By the way I have not seen so much of that lately. Mods must be really in it.

Please don't impose this limit. We all started from being a Newbie and this will make their life much more difficult here.

Please!

However, 5 minutes wait time just to prevent duplicate content is a better idea. Don't impose limits when posting in existing threads. Just the 5 minutes wait on ability to post new thread.
