What are you doing to optimize your ROI for promoted pins? I know some of you might not even have access to promoted pins yet, but this would be a good FAQ thread for people who already have a verified account and are experimenting with different techniques.

Here is my current strategy

I don't do anything too sophisticated, more or less trial and error then scale. It seems to work well for most any social media marketing platform. I create 10-20 promoted pins, all different items, styles, etc. Now to clarify, I promote unique urban clothing so I have a lot of different options to play with on what works well. If you promote something without so many variations, you may want to try differently styled pins: product on white background, professional shots of your product, reviews, etc.

So I launch 10-20 promoted pins, but only for $5 each for 1 day. I always schedule mine to start 2 days from when I create my promotions just because pinterest takes a while to approve. After the campaign ends, I go through and check the stats. I see what performed best, what really grabbed attention, etc. I'll then grab the top half of these pins and do another campaign with $20 each, re-analyze, choose top performers then scale up to 1K and keep moving as sales are flowing in at a positive rate.

If you are capable, add the pinterest tracking pixel! When you export your data it will give you a breakdown of exactly which campaigns made sales. Very important!

TL;DR Recap
  • 10-20 $5 each 1 day pins
  • Take top performing half and bump to $20 each 1 day pins
  • Take top performers and scale. Ex: $1K each 10 day pins
  • Monitor your tracking pixels!

If you are not promoting pins for your own products and still want to utilize your pinterest network or promoting abilities, I have an affiliate for my clothing site (getonfleek.com) that pays 20% commission on sales and 10% referral commission. Just shoot me a PM or signup for it at the bottom of my website.

So, this is just to promote your affiliate site?

Not really, debated on wether to include it or not but figured if its not intrusive or spammy shouldn't be a big deal. After all, we're all here to make money some way or another.

@OP, what kind of CPC's are you getting on your promoted pins?

@OP, what kind of CPC's are you getting on your promoted pins?

I put my threshold at $0.51 but my avg CPC cost is $0.37 while my Effective CPC is $0.32

I have another campaign that will be ending tomorrow, so Wednesday I can update further. I'm running 20 $5 per day campaigns over a 2 day period.

@Paper-Boy, I just finished half the campaign and lowered down to $0.17 Avg CPC and $0.16 Effective CPC. This happened because I started pinning content from my largest boards and so I got a lot of extra repins on my non-promoted pins.
