Let's Talk About Piercings & Jewellery

I haven't seen a thread here about piercings in years, with the last thread being created by @Yes in 2021.

I actually have four piercings myself: two 14 gauge piercings on each earlobe. I usually wear 10mm gold hoops, although I switched to 10mm titanium hoops recently.

So, does anyone else here on BHW have piercings, and if so, what kind of piercings do you have?

I have on my earlobes too. Thats because it is a cultural thing and our parents here get their kids' ears pierced. Girls get their noses pierced too.

Actually I like to wear, but In our culture - mens are not allowed..

So, during my college days.. Like college Tours, IV.
I just wear Some low cost Magnetic ear studs

I can understand that situation as the place I lived in where I was a kid was a lot like that with boys not being allowed to have piercings.

When I moved away from there when I was a little older, one of the first things I did was get one of my earlobes pierced.

I tried out those magnetic earrings at one point as well, but I didn't like how they felt.

I personally don’t have any piercings and the only jewelry I wear is my wedding ring.

Out of curiosity, do you wear your wedding ring all the time, or just one certain occasions?

I'm pretty bad at wearing mine because I find rings uncomfortable, so I only wear mine if I'm going outside.

I only take it off if I have to. Usually this will have to do with cooking or certain types of manual labor. Making hamburgers with a ring on is gross. I’ve lost my wedding ring before so if I’m digging or dragging things like cleaning up brush I take it off. I don’t want to lose it again.

Ah, I thought you were saying the jewellery became embedded in your skin.

My original ear piercings closed up entirely as well because I stopped wearing my earrings a month after I got them.

I had them re-pierced several times at around 20 gauge before finally just getting them pierced at 14 gauge. You'd think the thicker gauge earrings would be uncomfortable, but I find them more comfortable and never take my earrings off outside of cleaning them.

Yeah, I've left my wedding ring on whilst shaping burger patties before and it's just gross because the meat gets between the ring and your finger.

Same with manual labour. I've left it on working on my car a few times and it starts hurting my ring finger if I need to grip anything.

Only my earlobes are pierced.

I used to rock the horseshoe barbell earrings back in high school, many, many years ago:

And just last year I got a pair of wood screw earrings from TEMU, but I haven't really worn them.
I had them on just last week, but only inside my house, cause I became a boring old person. FML

Personally, I've never experienced an infection from an ear piercing, and none of my piercings were done by professionals or even in the most ideal settings. However, there's always a chance that a piercing can get infected, especially if the proper preparation hasn't been done (e.g., the needle hasn't been sterilised).

I see people with those horseshoe barbell earrings every now and then.

The screw ones are interesting; I've not come across those before and they're not for me, but I kind of like them anyway.

Go on, wear them outside and see if you get any people doing double takes.

I think you're thinking of those bigger lobe piercings, like this one:

But yeah, I'm not a fan of "gauges" either; they're just not for me.
