I have a classified site that I started over a year ago but did not finish setting everything up. take a look here http://www.spidermonkeyhosting.com/Classifiedads/index.php

Why not a group of us finish something like this and then push it out to the web and take on the big boy. Make is FREE FREE FREE

then after a while charge like 1 buck and you pay that buck you can post your ad and we wont take it down.


Let me know. I really think that if A group of us went at it we could take a big market share.

Yep it would take some work. But the foundation is set up and this site works just need to give it a few fixes for the first live version. then as traffic starts to build we start doing updates and upgrades.

I think this could really work. if we had a few guys that worked on the data base side, then a few that did the seo, and then a few that went out and marketed the site.

Just an idea, plus something to get a good thread going.
 
Haha ya try and beat an established website that generates 100 million revenue a year with some clone script. Let me know once your generating close to what craigslist does!!!!!
 
This would not be my first site that I would have done. I had a site 3 yrs ago that I put up to take on realtor.com. I did not get as big as them but I did get bought out.

This is fun for me. Just an idea
 
i love big ideas its take guts to try putting a new spin on something we would like to see..it can be done but it will take time and money to make it work on a small scale hope you get enough people to try....if you try and fail you may be called a loser but if you fail to try then you are a coward.
 
Good point. I have never been one to pass up a deal. sure I have lost out on more than what I have won on. The the Few that I have won have been big deals that keep me going at trying to spin things in different directions like what can we do to make this better that you know they wont do.

How would this be any different than all the hundreds of other craigslist clones that get shit traffic?
 
Business 101: CL got to where it is because it was first and because it was free. Traffic attracts traffic. Winner takes all in this game. Look at backpage, which is a clone and a distant second, and it is still struggling to get traction. I don't see anything replacing CL just like I don't see anything replacing Ebay, Amazon and Google.

Try to come up with something new and innovative instead of cloning something because you will not get the traffic that the original gets.

I'm pretty sure that more than 1 person probably told Serge and Larry that same thing but with Microsoft or Yahoo instead of Google.

Or you cant take on myspace its the biggest, it happens, it may take time, but it could possibly shift.
 
Well i think it can be done but it need lots of work/time and money...and with enough people working on it you might end up after few years competing with craiglist...who knows...i doubt it though and doubt anyone will work with you unless you pay them or unless they see some potentiols and hard work done by you...not just some clone script...
 
this is for the ewhores we set the site up and pimp real hoes for just a lil bit so ppl come to the site and then make them age verfiy lol jp but would be nice
 
I think it's a sweet idea!
Not that i could contribute too much to it though...im not techie enough. But i think there are a few guys on bhw that are REALLY good at what they do and could make something like this worth while. I SERIOUSLY doubt you would EVER get anywhere NEAR craigslist though...but might still be worth while..

Problem though, you will have to figure out a way to ensure it's success is not short lived by the "allowed" spammers and black hat ads. Might be worth having relaxed restrictions to only bhw...
 
hey great idea on what your talking about. What ive noticed with the other sites when they were starting off they almost invited black hat people to get the word out about their site, its almost genius if you think about you have free grunt labor. then as they grew they started putting restrictions on their site, so with that said make it so that you can scrape emails and send without a limit and invite the spammers and let it be with unlimted post and so and people will promote you for free, anyways just a thought
