Its been like 2-3 years that I constantly smoke, around 2-3 packs a day , managed to quit that shit for 1 month and started it again like 2 weeks ago , anyone from you guys managed to quit smoking? If yes I would like to know about any strategy or method that worked towards permanently quiting smoking , this shit is killing me , I lost like 6 kgs this year , used to go to gym and gave up , I really need to something about my physical condition which is getting worse and worse .

Post only if you got something related to the problem and it worked for you , thank you .

I quit a few months back after smoking for years. I know it doesn't help you much but I just stopped cold turkey because I was sick of it. I got to the point where I was disappointed with myself every time I walked out of the store with a pack in my hand.

People always seem to make excuses to wait for a better time but before you know it 30 years will pass and you'll still be sucking on those damn things. It's not the easiest thing but i found it easier than people make it out to be because I knew it was now or never. Totally worth it, and the struggle doesn't last long in the grand scheme of things

I'm 29 btw so the 30 year thing didn't happen to me but you get the idea

use to smoke 1 pack a day sometimes 2. i just stopped, its not hard, but, if you keep telling yourself that the reason why you cant quit its because your addicted, well you will never quit. like blacker said ppl always found excuses that they cannot quit, its the habit the hardest, when you wait for someone, wait for the train, etc.... withdraw dont exist with cigarettes its all in your head. i know because i went through withdraw many times with other stuff.

Find it in yourself to say "I am a beautiful person, I rule and if smoking keeps taking from me then maybe it's time I take from it" and just keep the cigarette down or cut it into pieces. You can decide to watch different people in hospital suffering from lung and throat cancer, it will make you feel worse on smoking.

Alternatives will be Zyban, or you may as well try doing an extracurricular activity for anytime your mind wants to smoke. Say for example I will do 20 press-up every-time I wanna light a cigarette. Other activities may be painting, swimming or whatever you do like.

I quit smoking and started using "Snus" it's awesome and no serious side effects.
Google Snus if you dont know what it is, i really recommend it.

EDIT: I did the work for you

    "
Snus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_Englishhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_English#Keyhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_English#Keyhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_English#Keyhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_English#Keyhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_English#Keyhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_English; Swedish pronunciation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_Swedish) is a moist powder http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobacco#Consumption product originating from a variant of dry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snuff_%28tobacco%29 in early 18th-century http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sweden. It is placed under the upper lip for extended periods. Snus is not fermented and contains no added sugar. Although used similarly to American http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dipping_tobacco, snus does not typically result in the need for spitting and, unlike http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naswar, snus is steam-pasteurized.
The sale of snus is illegal in the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_Union[SUP]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snus#cite_note-1[/SUP][SUP]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snus#cite_note-2[/SUP] and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turkmenistan[SUP]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snus#cite_note-3[/SUP] but, due to special exemptions, it is still manufactured and consumed primarily in Sweden, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denmark, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norway and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finland. The Russian http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_Duma drafted a bill which banned snus in Russia from 1 June 2013 onwards;[SUP]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snus#cite_note-gosduma_proekt-4[/SUP] however, it was never ratified. Local varieties of snus, growing in popularity in the United States, are seen as an alternative to smoking, chewing, and dipping tobacco. However, some believe US-manufactured snus is different from Swedish snus and should not be called "snus".[SUP]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snus#cite_note-irishtime-5"[/SUP]

I left smoking, I wanted cigarette really hard, but give myself word, I start to gain weight very fast, start to swim every day and playing gym, currently I do not care about cigarettes, I probably smoke 2-3 cigarettes month, normally beer days but over all I am not addicted any more, it is 2 years now but I become addicted to black tea, that what I use to drink when I want smoke so bad))

Reduce smoking as suggested before did not work for me
Tablets, plasters, drops did no helped me either

The only way to live smoking is to stop it completely and keep all your power fighting with this, after 2-3 weeks you will calm down

Im considering quitting and using one of those vapes, how safe they are though i dunno. I know many people who have successfully quit smoking by using vapes, but they all seem to be addicted to vaping now lol.

I quit like 4 years ago after smoking for 20+ years.

Believe it or not it was not as hard as I thought it would be. Two things helped me through that first month which was the most difficult part:

    1. Carrot sticks. I carried them around with me all day and night. Instead of smoking I would chomp on a carrot stick or "smoke" one of them. LOL...Funny but it worked.

    2. I reminded myself every time I had a craving that it was NOT what I was giving up, but rather what I was GAINING by quitting (i.e. feeling better, live longer, not smelling, etc..). That was a good reminder to get past those cravings.

Breathing deeply helps too when the cravings are really bad. All and all though, you can do it. It's just a matter of accepting that you're gonna be smoke free and then making your body obey your mind. There will be tough days, but you can do it.

Then there are the "smoking dreams"...You are likely to have dreams where you are smoking. You'll wake up and think "Oh shit" I caved in and started smoking! Then you'll realize it was a dream and be happy that you haven't gone back. I literally had those dreams on and off for 18+ months after stopping. LOL..Crazy shit your mind does to you!

Hang in there. Find what works for you to help you stop. Maybe you need to smoke celery sticks or licorice instead. Or maybe nothing at all. Keep trying. You can do it. After like a year, you'll look back and realize how great it feels to be smoke free!

    Best of luck to you!

I quit smoking 6 years ago and I used to be tempted about 10 seconds at a time every time I passed someone smoking - but I never gave in - not once. Then about 2 years ago I had friends that were vaping and after considering it for months, I tried an ecig - one of the simple ones and liked it. Now I vape with a nice 'rig' - and I do have nicotine in the juice but for me, it's like a portable cup of coffee (except it's nicotine vs caffeine). The biggest problems with smoking is that your inhaling smoke and all that tar and the 400+ chemicals they put into them. I'm not saying that vaping is 100% safe - let's face it, breathing isn't 100% safe... lol I'm happy with vaping but even if it was made illegal tomorrow and I couldn't vape after my supplies ran out, I would NEVER go back to smoking.

Just my .02 worth - good luck. Remember, you will quit when YOU are ready - when you are quitting for YOU, not for someone else.
    OS
PS. Since I started vaping, I am never tempted to smoke at all when near a smoker. I enjoy vaping and no longer have any desire to smoke cigarettes even when I smell the smoke.

I only smoked for around 6 months and I was around 14 years old, many many years. I essentially quit because it was winter and I didn't/couldn't travel the length of a 45 min walk when it was extremely icy and snowy to get to the guy illegally selling them to underage kids. Quite pathetic of me really.

OP: You should start vaping by the way.

Been smoking for 15 years, tried quitting so many times without any success.

Giving it another try now as I have less than 3 months to get in shape for the British 10k Run.

I never smoked but one of my family member used to smoke daily. We tried few de-addiction programs but none of them worked because as he was not determined to get rid of it. He started experiencing lot of cough and congestion in chest and was not able to speak continuously for 2 minutes without coughing. We paid one visit to a good doctor for the treatment of cough. As the conversation started doctor told it is all because of smoking. He said "Your body will listen till you are 50 years of age but remember as soon as you complete 51 it will show it's effect and you will feel absolutely helpless because nothing can cure the damage already done to your body, it will start declining"

I don't know these words were enough or he was so irritated with cough and congestion but he completely quit smoking. It took sometime to be normal but within 2 months cough and congestion was cured without any medicine. Yes you heard it right. No medicine and prolonged problem cured.

My family is a happy family now and I pray you get rid of this problem very soon. I don't think Vaping or any similar thing is a good option. Nothing will work till you are completely determined to achieve your goal. All the best Man.

You are getting rid of ur habit so prepare for fight make some goals maybe lower the daily cigs if you want to make it easier but it doesnt matter if u have strong will it only matters in early days and it may cause you to smoke later in procces (just one more blah blah) you need to be aware you want to stop smoking and go for it and sht with that if you smoke you are just cheating ur self. Go maybe jog and see how f*ked are ur lungs and think about it if you want keep it this way or even make it worse. Its pointless habit and mostly excuse for stress release find activies to fill time so you can get ur mind rid off thinking about it u will fight with it for few months for sure it may last for even few years("I would light cig so much at this moment its so nice weather etc etc") if you wont realise how pointless it is you wont prolly quit never. Good luck hope you get me atleast a bit :)

i never smoked until a few months ago, fortunately it seems i can't really get addicted to it, sometimes i smoke a pack a day for a few days and i don't smoke anything for 2-3 weeks
if anything, i think i'm addicted to the movement of lighting the cigarette & blowing the smoke, i don't actually enjoy the taste, neither the smoke in itself and i enjoy meeting random people because of it - especially hot girls - when they're walking up to me asking for lighter or cigarette

imho vape/vaping looks gay as fuck, like if you would suck on an eyeliner pen or something :), for me it's either the real deal or nothing, nothing would be the best though

quitting habits has something to do with a person's personality and how strong he/she is, not physically, but in the head
for instance when i graduated from highschool ~15 years ago, i weighed 92 kg for my 1.80 m height (it wasn't muscle) and i didn't want to start the university as a fatty, so i decided to loose weight, lots of it, i was determined as fuck, on that summer i lost 20 kg (not with the help of acai berry lol) and which is even more important: since then i didn't gain it back, i'm still around 70 kg
i know loosing weight and quitting smoking are not the same things, but the same thing is needed for both: strong will & determination, which worth more than any magic pills, those may help, but just those alone won't be too much of a help

i can't really recommend you any magic tricks OP, you can find those all over the net, but i'm with you, let's quit smoking
