Let's say I want to offer someone here a JrVIP subscription, but only if they accept one term: only my banner can be displayed in their signature. How acceptable is that on BHW? Wouldn't it be just like renting a signature space form someone?

That has been done before, @Nerva, just be sure that you don't rent it to a jackwagon or you will look bad and your idea will backfire.
 
I've done this before and the person will need to notify Admin on here to confirm they have agrred & are happy and also aware you are paying for their upgrade once you are good to go.
