Same here, Welcome message is not showing up. I guess Google employees start noticing an avalanche of new G-groups being made :D

Actually, it does show up. You just need to change settings so the group is visible to the world, instead of group members.

You do it by clicking the settings wheel to the right. I also changed the settings of threads to be visible by everyone.
