Not talking about Android at the moment.

No reason it should not be worthy. You can make anything with it, on many different platforms too.

Java is a good platform to start with.
Don't worry, just learn it.. Internet is changeable, so never mind about is still worth or no.
I'm sure it will be a lot of new things to be developed in the coming years.

2nd suggestion: Learn PHP and Javascript, they are a must learn languages but now, just start with JAVA.

    Good luck man.

Maybe OP is not interested in web applications :).
I doubt that much will change in the coming years. The concepts of OOP have been the same for decades and I don't see how that should change anytime soon.

what other languages do you currently know? Learning any programming language is worthy. Especially considering it's only going to build your skills, no matter what language you learn.

It's best on what is your goal. Do you want to be a full stack developer or may be something else.

Java is great if you want to get to grasps with OOP. It's complicated enough to challenge you but not too difficult to put you off. If you do find too difficult, try Objective-C. Similar concepts to Java but much easier to get the grasp off (+ you can make iOS apps which can be quite lucrative).

For web scraping bots etc I will recommend You Python - look that google use it. It doesn't so much expensive in resources as java and more available on public servers
