Lance Armstrong on Oprah tonight

The man is a destroyer

A destroyer of lives, careers and sport, the only reason he is coming clean is because he will not
face a jail term because of the statue of limitations, Although I hope the civil cases destroy him but I doubt it.

And to compare internet marketing to what Lance done is absolute nonsesnse, you may as well compare
a midwife to Myra Hindley, they both handled kids.

Hope he rots, as there is no place in any sport for a twat like him, who still thinks he done no wrong and has not apologized.

I could be wrong but the StatuTe of limitations
surely hasn't passed enough time for it to come
into effect (but I could be totally wrong but that's
my understanding of how it works).

Secondly, I can personally seperate what he has
done in his cycling and what he has done for LiveSTRONG
and I'd be very surprised to hear a person say that
they wouldn't prefer him to have cheated and to have
raised millions of dollars for charity and saved thousands
of peoples lives then to not have doped and not helped
set up the LiveSTRONG foundation.

That said, LiveSTRONG isn't all about Lance. That's
just my view about the payoff for cheating is helping
a massive amount of people, but that's my personal
view and could get flamed for that.

Not sure who you are talking about in regards to "comparing
IM to what Lance has done".

Secondly, unless you are a rapist/murderer/child molester
or really seriously negatively effect on a lot of peoples lives
I would NEVER wish someone like Lance "rots".

But that's personally just me and I am willing to be open to
what you and others believe.

Leave the guy alone... If anyone of you had gone through what that guy has gone through..In sport, culture, business, and recently these accusations... YOU"D CRUMBLE. If anything, think of how powerful the guy is to have gotten this far, influencing such huge authority figures.

Ps: What's the difference between what he did and what we are doing here. We are all seeking an advantage against our competition to gain an extra buck or two. 95% of us know how to do it..some have better resources to apply this knowledge. Botom line the guy was dedicated, focussed and nothing stopped him from getting what he wanted. Learn from that.

*end rant
LOL this post must be a joke. This guy cheated and went after ppl who had accused him before. He made millions and now when he got caught he wants to come clean. Fuck him

Lance cannot be tried for perjuring himself under oath back in 2005
where if he had undoubtedly he would have been jailed.

I hope he rots, yes I do, I am not going to go the politically correct route
here and say "oh yes, good old chap he owned up, let him get on with it"
He needs to feel the pain and hurt he caused many many many people through out his
career. He purposely destroyed other cyclists whole lifes, he destroyed countless other peoples
live with his underhanded manipulation of the sport, living a luxurious life with media publicity and decrying anyone
that dare to question him.

I deliberately did not mention the charity as I believe they have a hard enough job now to repair the damage that
he has caused. Would Mr Armstrong had any of the luxury trappings he has or infact would he even have been able to afford
the cancer treatments that saved his life, if it were not for the cheating that he done.

And just to add in you dont have to be a rapist/murder/child moslester
to hope that someone is going to get whats coming to them.

I believe they call it KARMA.

That's very true and I was thinking about
it while typing. The only thing I have to say
is I guess I'm happy to be niave in cycling
because I love following the sport regardless
if people are doping or not.

I guess for me it all started back in around 2007 or '08
when I first
got into the sport. Straight away my
favourite rider was a guy called Ricardo Ricco from
Saune Du Vale (not sure how it's spelled) but yeah
half way through my first tour him and his whole
team were caught for doping so that hit me hard.

Since then I've always liked the more believable
but still good guys like Andy (granted what you
said about who he has raced with and been managed
by). I like the sport and I've got to like someone, so
I like him.

I hear you out and I too love the sport but the big question is that you cannot get over these 20 to 30 kilometer long cols and mountains unless you are juiced up...

This is what happened to - quote - cyclist Riccardo Ricco has been given a 12-year doping ban after he was accused of giving himself a blood transfusion. Another victim!

I was a big fan of Marco Pantani dead at 34 thanks to cocaine with $30 plus million dollars in his bank account. Plus of course Richard Virenque the great climber but yet another doper the leader in the Festina doping scandal.

Pro cycling is like a grave yard full of dead riders or dead bent officials all in the UCI.

The cyclists will never ride clean as long as the UCI governing body is dirty!

It is all very very sad that it has got to this!

One of the galling things about this debacle is that cycling had
long been a sport infamous with cheats but never proven
and it seemed that they were cleaning up their act a little.

Now fast forward to this year and the UK has its first Tour winner in good knows
how many years and Olympic gold medalist to boot, Hooray something to be proud about
in these bleak economic times. I now believe that due to this crap with Lance, there will not be a
single person in the UK that has not thought "Did Bradley Wiggins cheat" and that is a travesty for him and the sport.

I do not even want to go near debating with you about Bradley Wiggins who I like! But Team Sky management and training team coaching Wiggins are/were nearly all flawed

Team Sky

Sean Yates big friend of Armstrong road in the same team

Steve de Jongh - Doper

Bobby Julich - Doper - big friend of Armstrong

A doctor - forgot his name left under a drug cloud

Then they shipped out or moved on a raft of team riders

And there is more and remember Wiggins has known Armstrong for years and now if the name Armstrong is mentioned to Wiggins or Mark Cavendish there is unease in the comments.

I will say again I like Bradley WIggins but can almost guarantee you that who ever is the winner of the 2013 Tour de France will be a juicer...

If you hate Lance Armstrong, you hate children with cancer, and want them to die. However, if you support Lance Armstrong, you are saving children's lives, and are a good person.

Lance will become poor soon by giving back his won titles and prize rewards really pathetic...

As I said on a previous thread...

My view on all of this:

Yes cheating is wrong and unfair in sport, however in Lance A's case- i'm not so aggrieved...

The Livestrong Foundation would not have been so successful without being able to leverage the success of Lance's career.
->The foundation has generated $500 million dollars to help those who have cancer.
->It has helped over 2.5 million people.

Like I say, without Lance's cheating, millions of people wouldn't have been helped by his foundation.

I'm looking at the bigger picture here, fuck it, its only sport- peoples lives have been saved & helped by the work of the charity.

There is a on going case here in the UK involving a Mr Saville,
This man raised Millions for charity as well and probably helped save peoples lives
so should I look on him more favorably as well ?

There is no doubt without Lance , there would have been no chairty but in the same
breath, if Lance had not got cancer would there be any Livestrong, I highly doubt it.
As he has proven in all actions past and present, he is a manipulative, control freak that
believes that he has done no wrong. For the amount of lives his charity may have saved
he single handedly destroyed just about as many.

You have to remember it's a bit of vicious circle for Armstrong. The very performance enhancing drugs Armstrong was taking prior to his cancer diagnosis, were the same ones that have the ability to cause cancer in the first place. He is very likely to have caused his own illness. Which subsequently resulted in him founding Li(v)eStrong. Although the charity claims to be doing well, there's no doubt its lost a ton of donors, following the scandal.

If Armstrong compares being given a lifetime ban from cycling with the death penalty (as he did in the Oprah interview), then he's clearly deluded (as his former team mate's wife pointed out (Betsy Andreu)) and arrogant.

I wore his Livestrong wristband for 8 years, it's time to remove it...

Good article from Paul Kimmage(former cyclist turned Journo, who pointed the finger at Armstrong for years) In todays Guardian.

Thanks

Quote

In 1993 Armstrong's mum met with Greg Lemond to seek his advice moving forward with his career...

What does he do now?" she asked. "What does he do with his money?"

"Well, let him find an agent - a good one with an attorney," LeMond replied. "And one word of advice - just be his mom."

They sat on the porch for a while and then moved inside to the kitchen. Linda had something else on her mind: "How do I make him less of an asshole. He doesn't care about anyone."

"Well," LeMond replied. "I can't help you there."

"How do I make him less of an asshole. He doesn't care about anyone."

Mum's don't always see the truth so clearly.

End of quote

20 years on what will she think now!

The Oprah interviews were purely an exercise in reputation management. Armstrong had two prime time opportunities to win back the American public.

He may have admitted he wanted the chance to be able to compete again, but denied it was his motivation for the confession, and instead said it was something he was doing for his children. Whatever his true motives, he did make some serious mistakes:

"Armstrong's errors

Didn't cry properly
When high-profile guests appear on Oprah Winfrey's show, they are expected to weep copiously as they reveal all. Someone as competitive as Armstrong knows that second place counts for nothing: his choking up and near-tears just did not cut it. America wanted rivers of tears.

Didn't give a full confession
The only way to do a confession is to go all the way. Armstrong appeared to want to go only so far. He needed to name names and give full and frank details. But Armstrong seemed happy with generalities and still denies key allegations.

Didn't lose the 'attitude'
During the hours of interview, many commentators remarked on Armstrong's controlled and emotionless demeanour. Armstrong needed to show he was human and worthy of sympathy and - most importantly of all - genuine. His performance came across as just that: something fake for the camera.

Played the victim
Armstrong seemed to break another cardinal rule of such confessions in having too much self-pity. At one point, he felt that he "deserved" a chance of a comeback. He had failed to understand that in the world of TV confessions that is not up to you any more."

And given that it's likely a Hollywood biopic will be made of Armstrong's career, the least he could have done was to take some acting classes!

What is going to be even more devastating to a lot of people
effected by this scandal is that I have no doubt Mr Armstrong will
end up being the saviour of cycling and I say that through gritted teeth

Cycleing needs someone like Lance to really spill his guts and not Oprah
Namby pamby style. He needs to lift the lid and name names, he will then and only
then start on the long road to redemption, but because he is so popular and does
hold great sway with the public, he can turn this around for himself and for cycling.

It will be a horrible headline but I can see it in the not to distant future
"from zero to hero the Lance Armstrong story"

Haha, drawing a comparison between a cheating sportsman and a serial rapist is thin at best- they are significantly different in crime and therefore my view of them will be differ significantly too.

Also, I might need some clarification on how exactly Lance's cheating has destroyed more lives than his charity has saved?

Yes he might be a complete twat who lost his moral compass years ago, but the work is charity has done is incredibly beneficial to those it has served, which is far more important than an armchair cycling enthusiasts negative opinion ;).
