Keyword Saturation Questions

I am building some pages out and was curious about keyword density.

For example, if my high target keyphrase is "Elliptical Machine" with 600 words on the page, what would my guidelines be? Other related phrases that are highly searched are "Elliptical Bike" and "Elliptical Equipment" and using other relevant phrases helps validate your main keyword right?

How many times should the word "Elliptical" appear?
How many times should the phrase "Elliptical Machine" appear?
How many times should the phrase "Elliptical Equipment" appear?
How many times should the phrase "Elliptical Bike" appear?

I know there is no magi answer, but I don't want to get blacklisted for stuffing either.

If, in the 600 words of copy of the page (not counting alt, title, meta tags etc) if the word(s):
Elliptical: appears 13 times
Elliptical Machine: appears 10 times
Elliptical Equipment: appears 1 times
Equipment: appears 8 times
Bike: appears 2 times

That gives the main word, Elliptical a 2.1% density
Main keyword (Elliptical Machine) has 1.6% density


Is that too much? Does it hurt that one of the words in the keyword (Elliptical) is more than 2%?

I don't think keyword density matters any more. You just need to include your keyword in the first 100 words of your content.

Do you use Yoast or any similar plugin? These give a pretty decent guidance but don't take them as the gospel.

The figures you mention are fine ( from my experience )

That gives the main word, Elliptical a 2.1% density
Main keyword (Elliptical Machine) has 1.6% density

Just avoid blatant keyword stuffing if you want a reader to remain on a page.

I wouldn't bother with density as much. Does the content read well? Does it feel like you could remove couple of keywords? Do it. Otherwise, if it reads well and sounds natural, it doesn't matter. Just try to put in more LSI/related keywords instead of exact match.
