Keyword Research tools - help?

Hi guys i am using google adword keyword tools all the while. My question is the competition column is just an indication how competitive if i do a adword campaign right?
If i want to find out how competitive is my keyword in organic search how do i do that? Can i do it with google keyword tool or shall i opt for other keyword tool? I tried wordtracker but the search volumn looks like not convincing, thus i doubt the competition column as well.

I use Market Samurai for this, but I'm certain Google tells you how many monthly searches your terms get and you can use that + a quick top10 analysis to check difficulty too.

I am looking at Market Samurai too. One of the marketer suggested Semrush, Market Samurai and secockpit. Semrush and secockpit both offers monthly package. Market Samurai offers a one off 97 dollar purchase. Did you have any experience on semrush? Seems like this is the most famous among three.

I always use Market Samurai (you can get a free trial), Micro niche finder and Longtailpro. Combined these tools are perfect for keyword research!

You can also use spyfu if you want to see the advertiser competition!

I normally use Long Tail Pro, with the platinum version you can have a metric can suggests the competition. It uses adwords keyword planner for the searches and moz api for the competition and metrics. SEMRush is another greate tool. The competition is the hardest part here because you have to do it by hand in order to be sure about it.

In Keyword Planner the competition even though it refers to adwords competition (bidding war), a High metric can be translated into SEO competition, more or less. IF a keyword has 2$+ and a high competition, i'm 80% sure that the SEO competition will be the same.

you can still use Google Keyword Planner, it is a free tool. Or you can use something like SpyFu.com which is also free.Market samurai is the best tool for keyword search but its not free.

+1 for LongTailPro (Platinum) if you want to take the hassle and time out of it.

like others have said though, it can be done using free tools and a bit of manual research. I guess it depends on your budget and free time.

KeywordRevealer is a new one on me, will have to check it out.

Long Tail Pro (Platinum version) is really buggy during comp research (it draws no metrics, and other bugs).

KeywordRevealer looks nice. Anything with comp analysis is key, really. Will look into that.

semrush is unbeatable but it has limitation on the keywords filtering tool.

You do not need paid tools for keyword research, it just takes a little longer. Keywordtool.io is great for long tail keywords.

In saying that, i do use SEMRush along with longtail pro when performing keyword research.

Google keyword planner does not indicate how competitive a keyword is as far as seo competition goes, as you rightfully presumed.
There are specific keywords tool that analyse how competitive a keyword is from a seo pov, and this is usually done by looking at the top 10 results and their metrics - Link Profile, DA, PA, age, etc... - and trying to figure out whether there are weak sites in top or not. If there are weak sites, you are good to go. The tool in my signature is one such tool, along with other paid tools on the market that have been mentioned in this thread.
