Keyword research for Affiliate site

Hi there! I am researching KWs for my new affiliate site. I came across some KWs on google kw planner with high search volume and low competition like on this screenshoot. I've read a guide about choosing a proper kw which says that kw should be searched between 500-5000/month. So am I missing something, is this too good to be true or I am just naive?

Also one more thing. If i find a kw let's say "feed hamster" that has low competition and 1k-10k search volume and i am supposed to write an article with that kw in h1/h2 tag, can i put "feed your hamster" and still get ranked or that is counting as completely another KW?

I guess I can edit post only once. While researching for 5 hours now I asked myself next question: Is it possible to fight the site which has DA ~50 but PA for search term <20 or even PA 1?
 
A high volume Kw doesn't necessary mean it is profitable.

Do not focus on ranking for 1 kw, look to rank and focus on a niche. And spread your content on several KW because you never know which one will be rank.

Google is smart, so it understands such deviations of a KW.
 
What google keyword planner is showing as Low/High competition won't help you much for a niche site kw research. These low, medium and high just shows the competition for advertising on Google.

You can use a keyword research software like kwfinder, keyword , reveler , etc to find the keyword competition for your niche site keywords.
 
OP that low competition you see related to advertising competition and not SEO competition , you need to read keyword research guides free here on BHW ...
 
You're messing up EVERYTHING straight from the start. Go read about keyword research on here for a few days and then go back to picking keywords because you'll be building sites and wasting time and money on links for nothing if you don't get this right.
 
Mate, you really haven't grasped how it works. Throw almost any kind of keyword into google's keyword planner and you can get results like that.

You are not going to learn keyword research from the answers on this thread. Search BHW for some detailed keyword research tutorials, then you can get started properly.

Spend the next week learning proper keyword research. It will be worth it. Best of luck

GKP only shows AdWords competition, not SEO competition. You can find very basic SEO competition from 3rd party tools like KWfinder, semrush,ahrefs, etc. GKP stops providing exact monthly searches few months back.
Try ahrefs and semrush trials.Spy your competitor's keywords and check their backlinks. It's the best way to find out decent keywords that easy to rank. Also, semrush has 'ad history' spy em if a one / two add promotes continuously is a good sign that niche/keywords are good. Domain authority easy to manipulate with GSA SER yet it's worth. Check competitor backlinks with ahrefs, majestic.

If you looking keywords for amazon affiliate sites, it should be buyer intent and almost top 10 competitor must be below 30DA and PA<20. Also they might have bad backlinks.

The most important thing to look for in keyword research for affiliate sites is the price of products you would be promoting.

There is no point in ranking for 5000 searches keyword if no one wants to buy something there.


Generally, the affiliate keywords should be done this way :
1) Find a good product. (Which pays out good commisison and you think is a good product that people will buy).
2) Find keywords around that product.
3) Do not look for 1 keyword, target multiple smaller keywords at the start.
4) Once you are ranked for the smaller keywords, start posting about more generic keyword in your niche, repeat.
5) Keep monthly giveaways for your visitors ,have a forum on your site to discuss issues , best practice guides to use your products.

This is a good way of making affilate sites.

If our website is new I would focus on long tail keywords I mean 4/5 long ones with much smaller search volume...lets say 300 p/m
even low competition keywords can be hard to rank...
when we are doing SEO for our clients we are ALWAYS looking only for long tail keywords and believe me sometimes it take us even 3 hours to find only 1 really good keyword.
 
so I should start with 3 kws longtail with 300searches p/m and build content around them? How many articles are we talking about, do i dive them to each kws or can I include more in 1 article. I heard 1000 words articles ranks better
