If it doesn't fit naturally more than once, dont put it in more than once.
Alternatively, write longer articles. However, yoast will show that it should have more then.
If it is natural with enough LSIs you will be ok. Check your competitors for the same KW. how many times will they put it into a similar length article?
If it is still only the once, just write better content. If they fit it in more than that, look at how they do it.

If you can’t fit your keyword in your article more than once your article is either:
- not focused for that keyword
- too short
- poorly written
I personally ignore keywords when writing articles, and write to answer questions and provide solutions.

Keyword stuffing days are over. Don't listen to Yoast (or really any plugin) when it comes to numerical metrics. If it's in your main headline, and first paragraph, that's usually plenty. Sprinkle in some more references throughout, and you have yourself a pretty decent keyword cake.
Also, no lol. Google checks for contrast between text and the background element. It's for accessibility, but it also penalizes against that sort of bullshittery.
Keywords are still important, but don't think too hard about them.

Yoast offers a % for the total content written JUST in the content box. The only way you cannot fit a keyword enough in an article is by the fact that the article doesn't fit the keyword.
And if it doesn't fit the keyword, trust me that Google search intent is not going to fit also.
After the last super algorithm update I can't remember the name (BERT was?), search intent is God-like.
So if you can't fit the keyword comfortably, think that doesn't matter if you rewrite the article and put that keyword a dozen times, it will take long if ever ranks...
Yoast has included stop-words not much ago (maybe in English was implemented time ago, but I've noticed this in my current language no more than 3 months ago). Therefore, if the KW is "game thrones" and you write in the article "game of thrones" it will sum up for the total %.
Also don't get too stucked in the order of the keywords. For example if the keyword is "throne game", just consider all the coincidences with "game of thrones" as valid. I'm not sure if Yoast can swap words adequately, but in my language it least, it can't. With the latest Yoast version (update if you don't see this), there is an option to include "synonyms" of the keyword, that sum up to the total %, so you can add there "game of thrones" to see if you get to the valid number.
This is all you need to know about this. Don't mess with Google too much in terms of content or intent. If Google can currently pick any content rewrite it as a whole, and still maintain the semantics, trust me that can spot any weird things you do within your text.

Thanks guys, I know it was a thing years ago, but after watching Kyle Roof and the guys on SEO fight club it seems keywords are still such a big thing with google. Over the last few months, I've not even thought about the keyword when writing content, as I did a couple of years ago. They talk about if your competitors have it 12 times in their content then to add it 13 times etc.

I believe using keyword twice is enough for 500 words article... And increase it correspondingly with every 500 words added...i hope this works fine
