Hi there!

I use an SEO plugin on Wordpress for my website and it is recommending a keyword density of 2%. I've also read here on BHW that a 2-4% Keyword Density is optimal.

I'm wondering if throwing my keyword into a 2,000 word article 40+ times is an intelligent move or if it is going to look spammy. (My intuition says spammy but I haven't been doing this long enough to fully know or trust myself yet)

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

All the best,
Zach

1-3 percent is good. I don't know at what point it becomes "over optimized"

I believe the yoast seo plugin also suggest 1-3 percent.

You should be fine with 2%. Keyword density has gotten less important
after Google rolled out the Hummingbird update. So you don't need to
artificially work your KWs into your copy if it seems unnatural.

Also, one of their algorithms uses LSI, or Latent Semantic Indexing,
which is effectively a rudimentary form of AI that attempts to assign
a "related terms" rank to your content for additional terms that are
semantically related.

A free tip I'd like to give you that's related to the previous point is:
try paying more attention to backlink anchor text that is LSI-friendly.
You'll be pleased with the results. :D

There's a -lot- of BS floating around regarding SEO techniques, one
more tip I'd like to share is that if you're in doubt about a particular
SEO recommendation, go straight to the source. There is a -ton- of
valuable information that you can glean by reading Google's patent
applications.

Cheers.

4% max on my "money posts"
i mean i dont actuallly do the math of 4% but just a rough estimate

I think that throwing your keyword into a 2,000 word article 40 time is not a good idea. Just try to make your article human friendly and use keywords a few times and you will see good results. I manage to rank articles with 1% of targeted keywords and sometimes even less. Google algorithms are becoming better and better everyday and overoptimization can bring you more harm than benefit.

That would be the opposite of "intelligent move". I would probably use it like 6-7 times at most.

Don't get bought into a hype, just because you are a newbie... Optimal keyword density is less than 1%. If you domain is EMD, you do not need to use your main KW a single time, except of website title of course.
Use rather synonyms, similar words, so called LSI keywords (google for it). Just noobs do this 2-4 or 1-3 percent keyword density stuff. It's outdated completely, similarly to plugins like WP SEOPressor...

Read every bit of this:

1 to 2% keyword density is good. so far I have written all the articles with that density.

Dear,
Keywords density of 2% is for keywords stuffers, or for them who use the keywords with a ratio or percentage. If an article is written in natural way, there is no worry about the keyword density because a word that is genuinely used in the sentence is never be perceived bad by Google. Moreover, Google is now shifted on LSI, so there is no more keywords myth. Just work genuine and natural.

Agree With asap1 1-3% of keyword density is alway's good. Overloading on keyword's in your content considered to be an unethical SEO techniques. In this way you can use either synonym's or longtail's of your main keyword in your content. Be natural with your content and place your main kewyword where necessary.

I do not Maintain the ratio every time. Its depends on Article Length.
For 500 Words 2%, 1000 Words 1.5%. I also change the density as necessary.

For 2000 word article maximum you can use 5-6 keywords. If you put more than than it will be spam...

By my ratio i go for article up to 2500/ words i use like > 10 keywords and im fine

1 to 3% of keyword density is good.

1-2% is what I've always stuck to, but you can also throw some extra long-tail keywords in there as well.

after http://doseoyourself.com/ultimate-guide-to-on-page-seo/ I dont care so much of density to be honest
