Most unfortunately do not understand the commitment that this type of work needs.
To rank and then make bank is a long and tedious way to earn, but IF you do it properly,then it will easily take this amount of time and more.
I had one site 12 years and never made a penny out of it.
I dumped it last year and changed tack - it was a vanity project, so it stayed - too dang long.
Never get caught up with sentimentality - it is a business you want not a hobby.
So yes - learn and do it hard and fast...

Feed content and links for a year, you will see the results. Make a site useful for your readers and it will make a good money.
