As a newbie with only a scrape of instagram experience last year in the humour niche( I only made around $125 total), I eventually got bored and stopped, selling my account and being done with it altogether. Comin back and reading into things the scene is very overwhleming, leaving me not knowing what works and what doesn't, what is still relevant, what is broken, what things mean, how to find a niche that can work out, which people online are those "gurutards" and who are actually helpful.

All extremely overwhelming, so I have no idea where to start or what to do. Tips? I don't want to be one of those "I need 2 grand in the next 2 days" people, I actually want to learn, expand a skillset and start earning eventually.

There are 2 subforums on BHW that will take away some of that overwhelming feeling if you use them correctly and can have you earning in no time at all.

https://www.blackhatworld.com/forums/making-money.12/
https://www.blackhatworld.com/forums/my-journey-discussions.167/

Read some of the threads there, pick up a couple of the ideas and implement them using your personality and thought process.

That is almost a guaranteed way to start earning a little bit and possibly a way to really knock it out of the park.

All the other stuff ignore for now as that is not important; what is important is to generate some revenue and see how easy it really is for someone that puts in time, effort and originality.

Thank you man, I appreciate the advice & encouragement. :)

My advice is to pick one thing and laser focus on it.

Lots of people shift from thing to thing after not seeing success after a week. I used to be like that.I stagnated for a year... Then I laser focused on doing one thing really well and that's when I became successful.

Well the information overload is because thankfully IM is one of the most broad ways to make money.

The main thing is to start a method and once you put the elbow grease to it, find a way to automate the process. Some methods are more passive than others (Content locking/botting/Kindle books etc.) while others require a lot more to think about and create a much bigger scale (e-Commerce, PPC/FB Ads etc.).

The main thing is also your budget. For example, there's really no reason not to look into things like paid advertising (Even something more streamlined, such as Clickback+Google ads PPC.) as the results will be showing a lot more faster, for good or bad. Doing those passive methods like uploading files and a lot of those hard work and low reward is because people do not have the capital to do so, but I do not recommend it over the more traditional marketing methods.

Even if some methods are more saturated, like Kindle Books (for me.) I still dove into it and it definitely took a while before getting the system streamlined. Almost felt like it wasn't worth it. But now I have a guaranteed passive source of income as I have VAs taking care of everything by now. This helps me focus on what really gives the big ones, such as PPC.

tl;dr - Try one method, but determine the amount of work and your capital. Streamlline. Rinse and repeat.

I'm in the same boat as you. :( I used to own a faily popular video game site where I was running Adsense, Amazon ads and other affiliate ads. I made over $7000 in one year but the earnings quickly evaporated so I just got bored and abandoned the website. I want to give IM another shot because I really dislike my daytime job (customer service....) There's just so much information and I also have a ton of ideas running through my head.

I think Instagram/Twitter/Social Media in general is the key. All I know is I don't want anything to do with Facebook. I actually disliked it so much that I deactivated my personal account. :o

I'll just continue lurking until I find something I like.

All above is good advice.

I'd add - WHY ARE YOU HERE?

I mean, really - you say " actually want to learn, expand a skillset and start earning eventually." Is that because you'd like to build your own business? You want to have a side job? You want to retire at 30 ? You just like internet stuff in your spare time and wanna see how you can make some cash while you enjoy IG?

If you can sit down and consider your long-term (or even 1 year) goals, you can better match those to some of the journey threads and make money ideas.

Do you like building website? Do you really love when someone clicks "like" on your IG pics? Do you love writing content? Think about what you really love and move in the direction of creating your own journey out of that - otherwise, you will get pretty bored and give up fast, again.

Thats the issue with IM in general, there are so many ways to go about things that you get information overload.

The best thing you can do is to pick one method, learn about it inside and out, and then try it out. Persistance is the key as you will most certainly fail the first time, but keep at it.

The day i started to view IM as an actual business and not just a hobby or as quick cash, is the day i started to actually make money online. Treat it as you would any other job, work at it nights and weekends until you start getting what you want from it.

I am a big believer that the money is in the list. So start trying to build a list as soon as you can, it doesnt matter if its free traffic or paid, just start building and establishing a relationship with your subscribers.

You don't have to be overwhelmed ... I would suggest just pick one method, take baby steps everyday - and you will soon have clarity.

If you were to pick SEO, take a look at the SERPs and see websites that are ranking for money keywords. Just by seeing several such websites, you will get a fairly good idea how to monetize your sites. Then take a look at their backlink profiles, see the onpage - and you will have a pretty good idea what to do.

Same with PPC or any other method. See who is doing well, see what they are doing and try to copy them as much as possible.

When one door closes, another opens.

You stopped on IG, but maybe it's time to start on Twitter? Maybe it's time to build an Amazon site?

Regardless of what you think, you CAN do it! All you need to do is apply yourself.
