Just got caught selling replica jerseys on ebay

So I just got caught with selling replica jerseys on ebay. After the world series I got a huge amount of sales and the next day the put the hammer on my account by taking down all my listings and temporarliy restricting it.

Now I got a phone call from an unknown number (I'm applying to jobs rn so I've been picking up phone numbers I don't recognize) and it was ebay asking me where i get my jerseys from and if I have receipts and I said no I just get them from a friend of mine and thats all I know...

she mentioned something about banning me from selling in a certain category (in this case sportswear jerseys) and that I told her after this I don't have any plans on going back to selling jerseys, but selling authentic rare streetwear clothing, which is what I used to do.

we left it off at that and the lady just told me to fulfill all my orders and that she'll follow up with me to see if I could get a receipt from my friend....

This got me kind of worried because I don't know what the outcome is going to be or what is exactly going to happen. Will I get fined? Maybe I just need to breathe a little but some reassurance won't hurt.

Help me out!

You knew what you were doing was illegal, if you can't do the time, don't do the crime.
Chances are, nothing is going to happen but depending on where you are located then they could pass your details on to the fraud/counterfeit team of the real manufacturer/supplier.

I'm in california...sigh I hope that doesn't happen lol. Just a college kid trying to get by.
 
Thats tough as counterfeiting, or even the passing of counterfeit items is a felony in the U.S.

They will probably just ban your account but it doesn't mean it can't get worse. If you still have any products then sell them on and make sure you don't have any paperwork around that show you paid for fakes etc.

Concentrate on getting that job and in future cover your arse.

Never publicly ask if you should start dumping evidence. Thats just asking for trouble.

If I thought it was possible I might receive a visit from the authorities then there wouldn't be anything on my computer or at my home that could implicate me.
 
I agree with Wilson. It will also depend on how much activity you had. Petty larceny vs grand larceny for example. If it went over a certain dollar amount (depending on your location, State) and a larger crime was committed, then you might have a problem. But I wouldn't count on it. Overall, Ebay is a bunch of scumbags and only acts when it affects their bottom line. Chances are it was MLB that reported you. They have a HUGE resource protection department. HUGE.
 
i got a 4000$ fee for trying to import gucci tshirts a little while ago :D

I wouldn't say it was HUGE, but I mean it was definitely a decent amount the day of the World Series...
So what do you think? Do I still have a solid reason to be super paranoid about this case or should I just sweat it off and move on?

Jesus this is scaring me lol. I really don't want to have to deal with any of that...already learned my mistake and plan on moving on lol.

Yeah and that is in state pen, not county. Cali has the harshest counterfeiting laws in entire US.

I would not fulfill any orders. You could be mailing all the evidence they need to smoke your ass in court.... right to them.

Honestly, how do you think they found you? Maybe by ordering a Jersey from you.

You ship a jersey and they're tracking it for legal purposes. You begin breaking all sorts of extra new fun federal laws.
 
don't speak to anyone if you've committed a potential crime.. you keep quiet and wait to see if you need a lawyer.

if ebay recorded that call and passed it on it sounds like you gave them an admission of guilt..

you'll probably be ok though honestly. just go on with your life.. if you get a call from the cops / or an investigator, politely tell them you'll need to speak with your lawyer before deciding if you'll be answering their questions.

thank you for the reassurance...I'm literally just trying to ask people if they think I'll be okay or not but no one seems to be answering my question..Just wanna get this part of my life out of the way and move on

I don't know how strict ebay is and how much they'll do in terms of pursuing issues like this. I've only been selling for a little less than a month so its not like there was a ton of time to make a huge amount of money. Other friends of mine who have done this same thing before said they just moved on and eBay never contacted them again but me being a paranoid individual wanted to get the opinions of those outside my circle lol.
 
People who work for companies like MLB, Rolex, Gucci etc are trolling Ebay all the time. This was the prime season for counterfeiting MLB products. Of course you got busted. I'd start refunding everybody if I were you.

Nobody can answer you because we don't work at ebay and make those decisions. They could go after you, they might not. No point in worrying until the shit hits the fan, just get on with your life. Or speak to a Lawyer for reassurance and your options should they come after you.
