Hey guys, need your opinion.

I designed a donation site that caters for kids who have lost the hope of going back to school.

I have put up a donation link.

Here is the question. What is an appropriate donation amount. If I put up the donation for $50, would i get response from people or would a $20 donation be appropriate?

You could check out my donation domain... Thanks to WooThemes

Why don't place multiple options ? Like $5 - $25 - $50. Good to see a philanthropist around.

Who controls what do you do with the money? Just don't steal a percentage instead of giving it all to the children! it's bad karma. :)

The site is not working well.

thetraveller already gave you a nice idea.
Also:
~ if you want to encourage them, make a list of previous donations made and the amount.
~ usually, the amount that shows up the most in the list, will also be the one that they will donate. ;)

Thank you so much. Will do just that

Very true my friend. But I am not gonna do that. I am bent on touching lives and that is my assignment

I kinda have difficulties putting such categories. What if I stick to $25? Would people afford to donate that?

Nice looking site. And good on you for doing this. It is the rare individual that thinks of the less fortunate.

This might sound cheap but I know a lot of people who would only be willing to donate if it was something like $5. Surely there is a way to put multiple options? Perhaps multiple buttons?

Keep a low minimum amount, like $5-10. That will get you more donations at the end of the day because more people will be able to afford that.
And do a good job with the site. I love your motive :)

What you are doing is really impressive.

- In google chrome the site is not looking pretty at all
- Most people in foreign countries (outside the US) cannot afford to donate $25, so you must do some scale: $5-$10-$15-$20-$25-$50-$100 and "for larger donation, contact us"

As the idea is really good and the guy is doing this to help other people, I'm sure there will be somebody who can help you to put scaled donations. I wish I could help here... Cmon guys, give something back to the rest of the world :)

Cheers mate,
thanks + rep given :)

Hey thannks man. You have made my day. I know you would have. I hope somebody's out there who is willing to help. I use gtpayment.com to collect payment and it is my plugin too. Just in case someone is doing something about this.

It should be your #1 priority giving them options, you're going to miss out on a ton of money if you only give one options. You go too low and there will be people out there that were willing to spend 2x,3x,10x that much. You put it too high, even $25, you're going to miss out on people who can give what they have, $5, $10. You need to have something like $10,$25,$50,$100.

Good advice. Also think about creating something to give back to the donors. People like to get something in return. It's just the way many peoples brains are wired. Offer them a (just guessing here) a photo for a $10 donation, a tee shirt for $50, etc. Setup a deal with local or online vendors to put a tagline or promote them with the products they create. You get a low cost gift and they get free promotion and a product they can use to show off their philanthropy.

I can implement scaled donations for you. Free, of course.

I wouldn't mind my friend. I would like to have it in $5, $10 $20 and $50.

The scalling will be good for my site. I will appreciate it. Like stated earlier I use gtpayment donation wp plugin. You can help me create same plug in with those scalings. wordpress.org has the donation plugin. You can download it to help you work.

Well I was wondering if anyone is interested in creating a scaling plug in script for my donation site. I would be very happy.

if i were to be asked i wouldn't put an amount option. that way all of the donation that would be given will be in kind. in our beliefs, any thing that is heartily given will results on good things. and lay down all your cards. put on the website how much are the current donations are, what are the projects you will be doing with the money, put the name of those who donate (not the amount), to show how much you are humbled by their actions, etc... one more thing....

Count me in with this one dude. if i could be of any help dont hesitate to drop me a message. :)

How thoughtful. That is true you know. I can always create a page for that but could there be such plugins that can help do that? I want you on this man. Thanks for your advice

Allow the donors to determine the amount. That way they won't feel pressured. imo
