Hi All,

I lurked for a long time and was in serious analysis paralysis... I realized that nothing was going to happen if I sat here and read thread after thread after thread...

So here I am ... I actually started this youtube channel by happenstance. I work from home and had done a few screencasts to help fellow workers using the same platform and posted them to youtube. I left them there and literally did nothing - no keywords, no monetization and I started to notice I was getting views. So I decided to start a channel and put actual effort in. I had an adsense account from a couponing blog that I did back in 2012 so monetization was simple.

Here is what I have done so far:
Purchased a domain name & hosting
Picked and configured a wordpress theme
Purchased a logo, channel art, avatar, social media banners
Opened a FB page
Purchased a screencast software

I started on September 1st and have been doing screencasts and have been getting some engagement from my subscribers and followers. Here are my stats for Sept 4 - Oct 1:

Videos: 36 ( I average a video per day)
Estimated Revenue: $3.28
Facebook Likes: 11

Overall I feel like I have great engagement albeit limited. I have received a few messages and comments asking me to put out videos on certain topics and I have a bunch of back and forth conversations.

My goal here is really about learning. I want to learn about ranking videos and my website. I would also like to put together a guide that would either be paid or to use to build an email list. I would like to be able to monetize this somehow but not sure how possible that will be.

Thanks for reading this far (if you made it)! I intend to update at least 2x per week and hopefully I can develop more of a vision on what I want this to become and how I can possibly monetize it.

MD

Great work so far, don't give up and keep on pushing and you'll make it. If you can provide value, there will always be a market where you can make bank from.

Goodluck with the journey bro...looking foward with the updates

Thanks everyone! I need to remember to add subscribers to my metrics. As of this morning I have 50.

Thank you! I think that is part that many people miss - the adding value thing. I think monetizing will be easier once I have established some trust and I am well on my way now!

Last night I posted a new video on how to handle rejections on the platform. I have to put a list together because there are so many topics that are worth talking about. There was also a person all over youtube spamming my videos and other similar channel videos saying the platform is a scam. Youtube must have realized he was up to no good because I can't see any of the comments on my videos. I only mention it because it served to remind me that there will be naysayers in the work from home niche in general so I need to just ignore it!

Right now I am working on slides for another screencast to be recorded tonight and I am continuing to engage with folks on my channel and FB page.

I also need to learn more about getting videos ranked and best keyword usage so there is some googling in my future.

Good luck on your journey.

sure you will learn from here we will help you.

In general, I have had really great engagement on my channel. Viewers are talking to me and requesting specific videos which is nice. I did take some time to learn about how I need to tag my videos to get them to rank so I have a small list to do to clean up my existing videos.
I am trying to understand what I am looking at when I compare Adsense to youtube...not sure I get all that yet. My data for the same period above (Oct 3-7) is
Performance reports Google AdSense.png

I guess I need to read up on how this all works. Next on the to do list!

My plan is to upload a few more videos tonight - probably three (earnings, requester spotlight, and 5 things to know). Hope to update mid-week.. this has been a really great learning experience thus far.

Another update.... things are moving a bit slow since I have been learning about ranking videos and laying out which tutorials I want to address when. Here are some updated stats:

Status for October 8th - 12th (Sept 4-Oct 12 in parenthesis)
Videos: 3 (45)
Estimated Revenue: $3.32 ( $10.06)
Subscribers: 89

Facebook Likes (as of Oct 14): 23 (+2)

I am slowly figuring things out and that is okay... I have ideas on how to expand my channel in due time but I am happy with my engagement right now so I am going to keep going. I plan on building out my website and social media presence. I am also considering posting on Reddit and a few other places so I am making sure I can access some of my aged accounts on those platforms. Right now my main focus has been producing videos! Onward and upward!

Slow week because it was my daughter's bday and I am at the point in the process where a million other ideas are filling my head. I took some time out to jot down those ideas and picked one to pursue in parallel with this -- hopefully that will keep me engaged in what I am working on.

Status for October 9th - 22nd (Sept 4-Oct 22 in parenthesis)
Videos: 4 (49)
Estimated Revenue: $6.53 ( $14.39)
Subscribers: 128

My goal is to put together a view videos to dripfeed in, update my associated website and then start to advertise a bit more. I have been fortunate that I do have great engagement from the people that do subscribe to my channel

More to come!

Damn.. nice RPM.. Mine is barely $2

What type of niche are you in? Don't be specific, just something broad. Just wondering because of that RPM

Hi. Thanks for stopping by. Is that a good RPM? I am so new to some of this!!

This has been my RPM for the last week or so:
10/17- $1.51
10/18 - $4.69
10/19 - $2.90
10/20 - $6.51
10/21 - $4.95
10/22 - $2.07
10/23 - $1.54
10/24 - $4.04

There is some fluctuation but I am averaging $3.50

My niche is instructional/tutorial... I am teaching a specific platform where people work from home. It is not viral worthy content. but engagement is super high with the audience that I do have and right now people are finding me on their own. Once I finish the majority of my videos then I hope to introduce more people to the channel and hopefully get more traffic!

Your getting some really good CPC so keep it up :)
Hopefully your niche has a high viewer base so you can really get some decent numbers when you rank 1st.

I'm also doing an adsense YT journey. Check it out https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/journey-to-100-a-day-w-youtube-adsense.887158/

Thanks! I do there is a decent sized viewer base out there. Right now people who already are working on the platform are finding me on their own (metrics tell me mainly through youtube search and suggested videos) but once I finish the core tutorials I will start to market to the broader work from home niche so I believe there to be numbers there. The other good thing about my videos is that you get people watching all the way through (even 15-18 min videos) and watching numerous times to be sure they understand whatever I am teaching. I have gotten a few messages asking me to do tutorials in other topics so that may be my next endeavor as it seems people like my teaching style. We shall see but I do appreciate your input!! I will absolutely check out your journey!

great post really appreciable work. That will be valuable to everyone who uses it, including myself. Many thanks!
Thank you!! I am hoping to use this project to learn what I don't know about YouTube... I am happy with the progress so far!
