Summary
Goal:

40$ a day over the course of 365 days is 14600$. That's slightly below annual salary for a minimum wage worker in the U.S, and so that is a very reasonable target for me.

Background:
I know how to make mobile apps, web apps, and general programming tools, and I'm pursuing a B.S. in computer science. I spent a year on BHW picking up general marketing knowledge (thank you everyone for the wealth of information). I have NO EXCUSE, for not at least making passive minimum wage income given that I am in very lucky and fortunate circumstances. And so I will try my hardest to utilize what I know and the resources I have to reach my goal. And hopefully I can provide you guys with any discoveries I make, so that they may assist you in your own endeavors.

End week goals (08/07/16)

  • Atleast 1$/Day
  • Finish Twitter Bot

Freelancing is bound by hours, which is what I'm trying to avoid. I want to create tools that can automate the process of accumulating revenue, so I can create a passive income stream.
Thank you for your reply!

Not at the moment, I will let you know if it comes down to that though. :)

8/3/16:
Revenue: 1.33$
Progress: Created analytics and keywords for niche tool for Twitter Bot. Next up are modules for automating tasks.

Just wanna say good luck, ain't nothing better than automation money in my eyes.
What language you programming your tools in?

What language you programming your tools in?

Yup! Automation is king :)

I was thinking Python at first, but I wanted a clean interface to work with so I settled on doing it on the web.
So I'm using Node.JS, which is server-sided Javascript and the standard front end languages (HTML/CSS/JS).

Thanks for your reply.

Good luck, are you doing a niche website?

Thanks.

I think I will have several websites targeting the same niche. I don't plan on just making them all standard blogs, but perhaps unique micro platforms.
On the sites I will most likely start with CPA offers once I have basic automation to drive leads.
Then I'll work on my own apps, and have the website drive leads to those.

Good luck mate, You're doing several niche website about what's field?

Good luck mate your goals seems as a best idea..

thanks!

Good luck mate, You're doing several niche website about what's field?

I haven't really been fixed on them. But my twitter accounts are in adult and entertainment. I've been thinking of targeting medical since entry is lower.
I think I might just scrape data on several niches, run it through some analysis tools, and then probably come to a conclusion on which to go with.

thanks for your words.

Today's Progress:
Writing a bot is hard labor. But probably around 50 hours of work later, I have something easy to use, functional and somewhat basic.

As of now here's what the bot does:
-Basic analytics to see changes in growth.
-Using key words from the niche, build a list of active people to follow.
-Every X minutes, follow user.
-Allow for easy account rotation.

I have two accounts in the same niche that are moderately aged, and PVA'd.
I'm going to make a new account today. So there will be three accounts operating under the same IP, in the same niche.
If I see some traction, I will scale up, buy some proxies, and do more.

For the aged accounts, I'm going to follow a user every 10 minutes throughout the span of the day to start off safe.
So (24 * 60)/10 = 144.

By the end of the day, I should have had followed a total of 288 users.
For the new account. I'll follow the guidelines of this (http://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/guide-growing-twitter-accounts-by-mass-following.561739/).
-No following the first day
-Simple tweets, and manually set up profile so it looks legit.

What's next:
So, I want to focus more on quality over quantity.
I'm going to improve the bot so it can:
-Harvest relevant content
-Tweet at users with semi-non-retarded English that's human comprehensible. And perhaps even appropriate.
-Random action (Retweet, Likes)
-Unfollow users after X days

Further out:
-More bots for other social media.
-Landing pages to content that's relevant.
-Product promotion.

I'm going to make these posts as detailed as I can so the process is clear.
My ears are open to listen to suggestions or possible new directions to go!

Current Stats:
Followers: 103 | Friends: 160 | Likes: 105 | Statuses: 345 | Follower/Friend: 0.64375

Day 3

Results:

Account 1:
  • Following: 377 (+107)
  • Followers: 1202 (+53)
  • Follow back ratio: 0.495
Account 2:
  • Following: 260 (+100),
  • Followers: 109 (+6),
  • Follow back ratio: 0.060
Account 3:
  • Following: 11 (+11),
  • Followers: 3 (+3),
  • Follow back ratio: 0.272
Total:
  • Following: +218
  • Followers: +62
  • Follow back ratio: 0.284

Summary:

  • I left the bot following users on auto pilot with 15 minute intervals over the course of about 20 hours.
  • I added new features to my bot, which is random action. It'll retweet and like random posts (all relevant to niche) throughout the day.
  • I began some basic activity on the third account with nothing major or suspicious.
  • I have not been hit with any sort of restrictions.

Findings:
  • While the niche of the account matters, so does the type of account on the niche. Take into account, whether you'd personally follow back a user that looks like your bot. I believe the category within the niche that account 2 falls under, doesn't necessarily resonate with users as well as I thought it would.
  • Account 1/3 are more successful because of the type of subcategory they're in. I believe the type of subcategory they satisfy is more demanding than account 2. So if you go on and start your journey, really consider what type of account you're making in the niche.
Next:
  • Figure out some clever way to create natural, and quality OC. This will probably done via scraping from other platforms.
  • Leave the bots on auto pilot, this time while performing random actions and following users throughout the day.
  • Begin outlining landing pages and external links that the user could visit.
  • Begin outlining bots for other platforms to increase traffic.

Day 4

Results:

Account 1:
  • Following: 438 (+61)
  • Followers: 1230 (+28)
  • Follow back ratio: 0.459
Account 2:
  • Following: 316 (+56),
  • Followers: 130 (+21),
  • Follow back ratio: 0.375
Account 3:
  • Following: 36 (+25),
  • Followers: 11 (+8),
  • Follow back ratio: 0.32
Total:
  • Following: +142
  • Followers: +57
  • Follow back ratio: 0.40

Summary:
  • Random tasks were done for each account (Liking and Retweeting, being mutually exclusive for each tweet to maximize exposure).
  • A tweet was liked every 6 minutes, a tweet was retweeted every 2 hours, following was still done every 15 minutes (Over 15 hours).
  • Something interesting happened on the third account, where people willingly retweeted a tweet of mine so I could get followers (Nice community I guess).
  • I have not been hit with any sort of restrictions or bans.

Findings:
  • Seems like account 2 isn't useless after all. I don't think I was hitting the right key words. But hopefully it grows.
  • Being genuine, and showing behavior that is natural will garner much more attention. People will be less prone to respond to bots.
Next:

Alright yesterday was unproductive after I finished my bot. I'm thinking of good ways to maintain account reputability without coming off as a spam. I really like BassTrackerBoats's tip on providing quality material rather than flat out spamming. I think the approach I will be taking is a longer, steady, and stable one. I don't want to churn and burn.

I'm really open to new ideas for what to start building (Niche is dating).
If nothing groundbreaking comes to mind, I'll probably resort to some simple blog I guess.

minor update: my bot doesnt seem to have a good grasp of what a quality tweet is, to my surprise it retweeted anime porn on a completely irrelevant niche. will be disabling retweets..

if I may advice: don't do actions with a strict timing. Setup a timing (like you did, for example once every 10 minutes) but add a random factor % on that timing so it looks more natural.
