The niche I'm targeting has tons of parasites ranking on the 1st page for various keywords. Since I'm a noob when it comes to SEO, I thought it's the prefect opportunity to practice.
At first I wanted to go with KGR keywords, because in theory they would rank on their own or with minimal linking. Unfortunately, after going through 1800+ keywords manually (I have no tools, don't judge me) I found 5 KGR keywords in total. It took me days to go through this many kwds, so we're not going to do much KGR with the 1st batch. It was still worth it, because I found 9 parasites I never saw before ranking on the 1st page in this niche. I also found a lot of kwds that should be very easy to rank in theory. They all have less than 63 allintitle results and their monthly searches range from 0 to 74000. Though I highly doubt I could get to page 1 on any of the 1000+ ones, so I'll leave those at last.
I don't know what I'm doing, so I'm testing a lot of things: parasite platforms, link types, content length, indexing and the like. I won't be sharing concrete parasites I'll use except for some well known ones, because it would give away my niche. But with a little digging in the serps you'll probably find most of the platforms I plan on using. I will of course share the results of the tests.
The Plan
At first I'll build what I call 'Product Parasites'. Think of sites that let you put your own products on their platform (some pod, some not). Amazon is one that's used quite frequently. I have 18 different platforms I want to use, but I'll only start with 6 and go from there. I will build 1 product page each day until I get one indexed.
Then I start building 'Traffic Parasites' as well. These will point to my product parasites and rank for info and buyers guide type kwds. I'll do another attempt at finding KGR kwds for these. Worst case scenario the success rate for KGRs will be pathetic and I'll just use any kwd I deem very easy from this batch. A mainstream example of a traffic parasite would be Pinterest. It basically ranks on 1st page in every other keyword I was evaluating in my niche.
Most of the link building will be manual, because I don't have tools and have minimal funds. Once I find a link type that works well ranking these properties I'll outsource the building of those. Eventually, I want to buy my own tools, but only once I know what type of links I need to rank easy kwds. And actually be able to tell what is an easy kwd, because my easy kwds could totally be medium at the end. They seem easy to me, but idk.
The Tests
None of my tests will have enough of a sample size to draw any statistically correct conclusion, but hopefully I'll see a pattern emerging.
Indexing test
How long does it take to get each platform indexed? What makes them index faster? (indexing services, social shares, blog comments, etc.)
Link type test
See where the parasites land after indexing. Test the power of blog comments,bookmarks, web 2.0s (expired and fresh ones), cheap PBN links, 301 shorteners, etc. Try out each link type on it's own and also try different combinations of them. Unfortunately, I can't really play with velocity, because manual link building has it's limits. This might cause this stage to take a really long time. If this is the case I'll do some tests with higher volume links from here of fiverr.
Platform test
If all things go well, I'll find a platform or two that ranks fast with minimal links built to it and it converts well. I need to make sure each platform is tested with each indexing and linking method at least once. I'm not expecting anything concrete from my initial batch of 60 product pages, but I hope I'll see a pattern emerge.
Content test
The product parasites won't be getting long form content, but I plan on testing different content lengths on the traffic parasites. This could affect all the other tests so I'm not even sure how I should go about properly testing this without muddying up the results.
