Hello guys,

Recently i started being an active member on the forum.

After reading a lot of journeys I decided to start a quiz website.

Oh god, one more ? Yes. It was the thing I understood better and the only thing I thought to myself “Yeah, I can do this. I can start this right now and with some time I’ll get there.”

Will I be successful at this ? I don’t fucking know, but I’ll try.


Why am I making a thread about starting a quiz website ?

Well, I am kinda noob at everything so I know that I will encounter myself with some really basic problems and I’ll probably spend like 100 hours on each, but I am hopeful that with a open thread someone will comment something useful that will spare me some useless work on a simple and basic problem that I am too stupid to understand and solve.

That’s pretty much it. So let’s start.


What I’ve done so far:
  • Bought domain “.com” on namecheap. (8$)
  • Bought a super cheap hosting on koalahost. Maybe I’ll change this later. (1.80$/month)
  • Downloaded festinger quiz plugin from mythemes as I don’t want to spend a bunch of money right away. I want to buy quizé plugin from @se900se later.
  • Created 2 quizzes, it is actually harder than it seems.
Total Spent:
9.80$
Total Earnings:
0$

That’s pretty much it for now, any tips will be appreciated.

I'm actually happy to see more people trying the Quiz method.
I'm in the beginning stage myself, just like you. And yes, I also noticed that creating quizzes isn't exactly a 10 minute type of work lol. However, the more quality you want to add to them, the longer it takes I guess.

I'll be following your journey too, I'm curious how it will turn out.

I don't have any meaningful tips however as I'm still learning things as I go myself, but hey. Trial and error will show us the path.

I just noticed you also created a journey thread recently, sounds interesting, I'm gonna check it out.
Yup, I actually thought I could create each quiz in 10/15 minutes. Lol. I was so, so wrong.

Small Update:

Today I was reading some Quiz journeys and I saw everyone was using bimber theme with elementor and a bunch of plugins.
I installed them all and tried to learn them all.
I tried to do what everyone was doing because it actually seemed cool but long-story-short, I failed miserably. I did some big shit and I had to re-install WordPress.

If you are a beginner like me, I don't recommend you to go on this path.
I've spent an entire day with non-sense bullshit. I felt like I was working but in the end, I got nothing done. Sometimes you should just go with simple things and things you already know.
Maybe later I can change all of this and maybe try to use those fancy themes and plugins but right now I'm going the simple and modest way.

What I've done:
  • Setup WordPress
  • Setup a free theme after all this
  • Created a 300-word text for the quiz
I'm kinda mad, I feel like i've spent my entire day and my limited time on this and didn't got any further. Anyways, I probably won't die today so i'll have more time.

Things I would like to know:
  1. Can I use images from TV Shows/movies? Or will I get a copyright warning in the future?
  2. How to redirect the "Start Button" to another page and start the quiz there instead of it starting right away by default? (I really would like to know this, I'm going crazy)

i dont think i would recommend elementor for this specific use. its ok for most types of pages, but quizzes need to work fast and page builders will slow you down. i would recommend you to download some beginner wordpress course (probably from download section if you are on a budget), or just some course from youtube. so you don't feel like you need a page builder.

1. Using images from TV shows and movies is copyright. Whether you are likely to get sued is up to you to decide.
2. I assume you mean you want the page to refresh each question and the quiz not to just take place within the page. The quiz plugin may have an option to refresh the page each question.

Glad to see more people starting quiz sites, even if that means more competition ;)

Alright, thanks. The plugin has that option. Yes.
But it reloads the entire quiz from the start instead of reloading and going to the next question.

Could you explain a bit more? Surely you want the quiz to refresh to each question right?

Yes. But it should always go to the next question, right ?
What should happen: I answer to question 1, then it reloads and goes to question 2, then it should reload and go to question 3.
What's happening: I answer to question 1, it reloads and goes again to question 1. And always like that if I have that option activated.

That shouldn't be happening at all. There is a bug with your site or the plugin. Cache maybe?
 
I have tried the quiz as a lead magnet. Take the quiz, get a discount, etc. How do you use it? And in what niche is your site, if not a secret?
