Hello BHW!
First of all sorry if I have typos. The (local) in the title means that I'm running the website for my home country only. I don't see a reason to start an international website with a niche I've never explored before. I've been reading a lot of other members' movie streaming journeys and decided to give it a go. I started my website back in 16th of June 2017, but I still want to make this post and will try to include all things that I achieved so far. I will try to post updates in the comments at least once per week.
Things I Need Before Starting The Website
Domain Name
Good Hosting
Movie Wordpress Theme
Openload and Streamango Profile
After Getting The Website Online and Installing Wordpress
Day 1
Alright. The website is now online and the theme has been installed, but it's loading slow. It's time for a nice plugin! I got myself the WP-Rocket plugin which sky-rocketed my website score on GTMetrix from 86 to 92. It's not enough for me so I decided to look a little deeper and got a lot of really nice suggestions from WPMU DEV which increased my score to 94!
Now I need to start thinking about the long run. Let's pick a good SEO plugin...most of you might disagree with my decision here, but I picked The SEO Framework plugin since it's nice, clean and doesn't fill my whole Dashboard with information. I went through its settings page and opps forgot to add my website to Google and Bing's Webmaster Consoles...Okay, let's add them and finish the plugin's settings page.
Day 2
It's time to start thinking about the legal stuff. I've put a DMCA notice on the footer and created a DMCA complaint form and page with additional information. I've also created a Terms of Use and Privacy Policy page, as well as a little "This website is using cookies" notice to comply with the Cookie Law of EU.
Okay, now lets create a Facebook page...Done. It's created. 0 likes (cry face). Anyway since my country doesn't use Twitter that much I won't create a profile there for now, but I will create YouTube channel and upload a bunch of movie trailers with subtitles which will hopefully get nice amount of views, because I will put a link to the website on the description to maximize the number of traffic sources.
Day 3
It's movie time (and tv-show time of course)! So since my website is local I will need to show movies with subtitles only, which means I won't be able to automate the website for now and that will increase the amount of time and effort sadly, but I wanted to do that for a long time and I am not going to give up now. Basically, I'm getting Openload / Streamango Links from reddit and other movie websites to my profiles and then downloading the correct subtitles (you know the annoying "this movie is WEB-DL and the subtitles are for BluRe" kind of things...).
Now while I'm filling my website with movies I make sure to use the best of the SEO Framework and put nice titles, so I picked this format "Watch "Movie Name" (Release Year) Online - Website Name. Also, this theme came with a nice TMDb generator so it generates the posters and wallpapers of that movie, which means that I can just copy the wallpaper URL and add it to the SEO thumbnail image's URL. Using good keywords is also important.
On that day the website had 10 movies on it (It was late and I was tired so let's continue tomorrow).
Day 4
While going to sleep yesterday I remembered that I can add ratings to the movie so I can get the nice little star symbols that appear under the search results for your website. This will definitely boost my SEO! Before starting to add movies again lets think what is the most popular thing people in my country watch..hmm..oh I know it's Game of Thrones! Let's add all seasons and then come back to the movies. While doing this I remembered that the new season will come out in 1 month so that gave me an idea to upload the official trailer with subtitles to my YouTube account. I did upload it and 12 more trailers.
Day 5
Adding the trailers actually took me two days, so let's jump to day 6.
Day 6
Good morning Day 6! The first thing I noticed is that the Game of Thrones trailer received 200 views overnight which is absolutely incredible and because I put a link to the series in the description I received some traffic and Facebook likes too! Lets continue adding movies. At the ned of the day the website had 50 movies uploaded and around 600 visits. While browsing the other movie streaming website I noticed a link to a website that has links to all movie streaming platforms so I added mine too.I received a free 5 days VIP for that, which actually boosted my traffic.
After that, I just kept adding movies until the day in which the new Game of Thrones season came up. So I created a Facebook Ad saying "Watch All Game of Thrones Seasons Online with HD Quality" and to my surprise, the post received 600+ likes and 100+ comments. A lot of people started visiting the website daily and liked my Facebook page. When I uploaded the first episode of the new season I posted a Facebook post which got a lot of shares and more people started liking the page.
As the time went by and new episodes came out I did the same and the website was at 15 000 views per month and 2500 page likes (some of you will say that it's not a lot, but for me, it's pretty good for a first try at that niche. Some other people in other forums are stating that they received 100 000 monthly views after 2 months of keeping the website up, but that's a total BS).
Adding Ads To the Website
I know that for now the website will not make a lot of money but everybody starts from somewhere. I started with Propeller Ads. Let's see the information about the website for now.
Monthly Visitors: 30,000
Monthly Income: $10
Total Movies: 737
Total TV - Shows: 14
Facebook Page Likes: 3700
The biggest deal for me is that right now whenever someone from my country searches for an online movie they will see my website on the front page at the 2nd,3rd and sometimes 5th spot. When they search for Game of Thrones episodes my website is always on the 1st and 2nd spot.
This is it for now. I will make sure to keep it updates if something new happens. Hopefully, you liked that post and once again sorry for the typos.
