Hello there,

I have been very impatient in the past when it comes to SEO. Instead of taken time researching about SEO, affiliate marketing etc. I tend to just dive into things and try different stuff to see what works. This has cost me a lot of time, not to mention wasted money on unfinished projects. I am here to learn to do things differently this time.

I have decided to share my journey hoping that:

1. It will keep me engaged and committed to the project.
2. I can get some useful inputs from more experienced users here.
3. Others in a similar situation can learn from my journey

Here is where my journey begins
  • I have an Amazon affiliate website that has been around since summer 2017.
  • It has been inactive for about 3-4 months. I migrated it to a shared web hosting server and it has been up and running for about a week now.
  • The traffic is about 30-40 visitors a day and a total of 26k words.
  • Majority of the traffic comes from informative articles.
  • I have a single long-tailed low competition review article that gets about 10 visitors a day that has earned me $8 dollars.
My goal and next move

My initial goal is to reach $100 / month from Amazon affiliate commissions.

I have already an article with my main keyword. It is a buying guide including a table with 15 best products a link to review of each. It has a total of 1.8 k words. Last time I checked it ranked on page 5 for the keyword which btw is pretty low in competition. The other article I want to rank for is an informative article on 1.7k words. Last time I checked it ranked 42.

I have used the last couple of days planning the next move. I honestly am not sure what to do next. Here is a couple of things I was thinking of doing:
  • Focus on link building for the main page
  • Link building for the above articles
I think my next move should be to figure out how to link build properly (where to buy, what are quality links, etc.) Any valid source would be appreciated.

I will update this once I have decided on what I do next.

Not a lot has happened since last time. In the world of SEO a week is not much. However, I can see some progress when looking at my analytics. The organic traffic is slowly increasing and as my existing articles rank for more keywords.
the daily visitors are on 40-50 visitors now.

Here is what I have done the past week
  • Posted two more article - a product review and an informative article of 1900 words.
  • bought 100 forum comments from a bhw gig with a backlink to the main article
  • found a writer with experience in the niche to provide more informative articles
  • currently developing another informative article
My results so far
  • i cannot estimate the effect of blog comments yet. I dont know if they worked. It doesn't appear like it so far.
  • My newly posted article hasn't been indexed yet either as far as I can tell on google consol
Next move
  • build at least 10 manual backlinks to my informative articles in relevant forum threads
  • write at least 3 more articles - 1 product review and 2 informative
I will focus on producing quality informative articles and low-quality product reviews. The logic behind this is that I believe informative articles will accelerate White hat SEO. If users find them useful they will most likely share it. And hopefully, the effect will elevate my review articles automatically.
So the intentions of building manual backlinks to my informative article is to show as many as possible where they can find the answers to their questions. just to get the ball rolling.

I will try to keep this journey up to date once a week in the future as well.
