Hello everyone, I have been reading on this website for a bit and I find it really encouraging, so I've decided to share my story as I go.

Of course, any help or input is appreciated and I will try to answer as many questions as I can.

GOAL: Build an online coaching business and reach 10k per month in revenue before this summer, July 2024.

BACKGROUND: So I have actually been coaching offline and on Fiverr here and there for years now, my income was very inconsistent but averages to minimum wage. Truth be told, I've been lazy and super inconsistent with the business side of things because I was focused on honing my craft and just living off my passion.

But passion does NOT pay the bills, and eventually the agency I was being a consultant for went bankrupt and there went 70% of my monthly income.

I paid a business coach $600 to help me find new clients, which he failed to help me achieve - but discussing sales with him was immensely helpful and helped me transform a long time follower into a client. But that's the thing, I don't have much followers. At least now I understand the process of selling something to someone.

One thing that I do have going for me though are digital programs that I made with love and passion to explain the fruits of my discoveries while honing my craft. I make an average of $100 per month from selling these. This number is likely to increase as my reach on social media increases too.

I have been posting here and there on my YouTube channel for years and have 1600 subs, as well as an IG account with 500 followers. But honestly those numbers are so low I don't think they matter lol.

THE METHOD: I will focus on cold outreach while being more consistent with my uploads on Youtube, Tiktok and Instagram.

THE MAIN CHALLENGES: Keep in mind I am a total beginner in all of this with 0 education besides the book I read on marketing and business. Most of what I will do will be trial, error and guessing games.

In my opinion the bottleneck right now is getting myself in front of new people so my first objective is to send 50 DMs per day on Instagram (my FB account got restricted after I sent 20 DMs yesterday ... screw you Zuck!).

TLDR: Online coaching business, almost no social media presence, goal is to make 10k monthly by July. Starting with sending 50 IG cold DMs per day.

So I am writing this on the same day as I made the original post because I actually started a week ago... hehe sneaky me.

UPDATE WEEK 1:

Goals:
- Send 50 cold DMs on IG per day
- Get 1 consultation call set per day (doesn't have to be on that very day but it has to be scheduled).

Day 1: I spent my day coming up with a first DM pitch, watching Youtube tutorials (unfortunately there is no-one of substance in the Youtube game that actually explains well how to do DM outreach as a coach, as far as I know).

In terms of outreach, I was manually sending DMs randomly to people who liked posts of influencers in my niche. My thinking is "if they like this person who does a similar thing to mine, they might like me and buy from me?"

Only 1 person replied to my outreach today. I booked a consultation call with him.

Day 2: Maybe I'm lazy, maybe it's my ADHD speaking, but I just physically CANNOT send 50 DMs a day in batch of 5 DMs per hour, all day. I spent the day looking for ways to automate the process.

Days 3, 4, 5: I am getting between 1 and 2 replies per day, so far only 1 consultation call booked. I've managed to scrape a list of a competitor's followers (my IG account got banned in the process, but this was an alt account I bought a while ago so I don't care).

The automation bot is ready and I start it as I go to sleep.

Days 6, 7: Because I am using a bot, my message is super not-personalized. It reads something like "Hey bro I have this [LEAD MAGNET] and it helped my followers get [THIS RESULT] without [THIS PAIN], do you want it?" I start working on improving that and spend some time learning spintax.

Also, I got 0 replies to this first DM when using the bot. I think this is a combination of the message being not personalized at all and sending DMs to a followers list.

I am assuming that a followers list has got to be worst place to find a lead from. In the next few days I will aim to scrape likes and comments. Also, only 1 booked call this week. I am thinking that I need to pump the number of DMs I'm sending daily WAYYY up.

Results after week 1:
✅ Sent 50 cold DMs on IG per day
❎ Booked calls 1/7

I don't think I am allowed to sell something here? Idk. Basically I help guys who have it tough with women get dates and build their confidence up through social exercises, overhauling their dating profiles, etc. Not to brag but I've actually helped pretty hardcase guys lose their virginity, etc, so I know the service is amazing and is in demand. Tho I've always neglected the "money making" part and now gotta get to work!

Happy to talk about it more over DMs because I don't think it's really relevant to my thread here haha
 
UPDATE WEEK 2:

My calculations are that I need to send roughly 4000 messages to get a coaching client per month.

If you care about math:
With an average of 1 reply for 40 DMs sent
I need 10 replies to set 1 consultation calls
And I need 10 consultation calls to sell 1 coaching program (I don’t know that, I estimate it)
So I need to find a way to send 4000 DMs in a month to be okay and pay the bills. Let’s do this!!


Day 1: I spent my day coming up with a way to send that many DMs (150!) each day without getting banned. I sent 60 on my main account before getting restricted. That’s a bummer, I will have to let the account rest for 24h.

One more guy accepted a consultation call with me but he is only available when it’s literally 4am in my time zone. I could not realistically work with him even if he wanted to pay me, dammit.

Besides that, I updated the bot to include spintax and now my first DM includes 2 personalized lines + 200 variables of the same message. I should be good on that front.


Day 2: I was still restricted, unable to send any DM. I spent the day editing content, seeing my GF and I bought an Instagram account with 1k followers that looks similar to my main account and appeals to my niche to help me bypass the daily DM limits.

Unfortunately that account was restricted after sending 2 DMs …………………. Guess I’m not reaching out to anyone today.


Day 3: I scraped a new list, this time I am targeting posts of people who commented in a “raising their hands” manner. Basically another coach asked who wanted free help in a post and I added to my leads list all those who replied in the comments. That day alone I got 7 replies to my messages!!

Unfortunately, those posts are extremely rare on Instagram and I have yet to see another such post.


Days 4, 5, 6: I scraped a new list, this time targeting people who liked the reels of other influencers in my niche. I am getting 2 to 4 replies per day, but no booked appointments sadly.


Day 7: I got restricted at 50 messages sent on that day on my main account, the alt account still cannot send more than 2 cold DMs per day.

Results after week 2:
❎ Sent 50 cold DMs on IG per day – I got restricted so I only sent 304/1050 messages this week
❎ Booked calls 0/7 – I don’t know why honestly, I get ghosted when pushing leads to continue the conversation more than usual this week.

I’ve noticed I also got a lot of “autistic” replies to my pitch. I’m not sure how else to call or describe that, some people answer totally beside the point – my best guess is that they do this to mess with the “marketer” that I am and get kicks out of it. Oh well.

Maybe it's because of the quality of the leads I go for also? I guess I could screen them harder when building my lists.

And more importantly I need to find a way to send more DMs everyday ASAP without getting restricted.

Overall, very disappointing week.

- Send 25 cold DMs per day on Facebook (175 per week)



Day 1: My account got restricted yesterday so no DMs sent today. I bought a new aged IG account with 1000 followers, I’ve started the process of warming it up. My FB DMs are still restricted, it has been over 5 days so far wtf. I’m also updating my IG account so it looks more professional (added testimonials in story highlights).

I’ve updated my bot so that instead of sending messages over 24 hours it sends them over 12 hours to mimic real user behavior better. I could send FB DMs today again, so I manually sent 25.

I’ve purchased a proxy and I am using it to warm up my 2 alt IG accounts.

Day 2: Turns out I was not restricted to 50 DMs per day on my main IG acc, my bot just sometimes randomly breaks and says I’m restricted while I’m not – I’ve emailed their customer service and they seem clueless. Let’s see what happens in the future. Overall this is great news.

I’ve also upgraded my lead magnet, instead of a PDF it’s a loom video going over the PDF + the PDF.

I sent 25 friends requests on FB and I got restricted after sending 28 DMs, so that seems to be my upper limit.

To finish the day, I consolidated a list of about 10000 leads from other coaches’ friends lists on FB. I spent 4 hours doing this and once done I realized that I just made the same mistake again: going for the followers. I’m still divided on this because FB “friendships” require input from both parties so it’s probably a bit more qualified than a list of IG followers.

Day 3: I posted a story mentioning I updated my free guide asking for those interested to react. A bunch of bots reacted, but also a long-time follower reacted. I booked a consultation call with him.

I’m starting to think the best strategy to go about this is
  • Reaching out with free value
  • Asking a question on the spot to see if they want immediate solutions
  • If not, letting my content passively grow their interest for me
  • Once a month or something, create a post that will push people to raise their hand
  • Engage conversation again with those who raise hands and try to lead to a consultation call again
I spent the rest of the day documenting my scraping and automation process in case I ever need to hire a VA for this (and also in case I forget how I did things lol).

While building a new list I also realized how many unqualified prospects there were on Instagram in my niche (ie. prospects from third world countries, obvious bot accounts, etc).

I hate to do that but I will have to heavily discriminate to reach my objectives: anyone with a username that sounds even remotely “Asian” is immediately deleted from my list.

I also spent some time warming up my 2 other IG accounts and my other FB account, as well as battling with proxies to find one that works.

Unfortunately my bot broke after sending 24 messages, I think IG blocks DMs sent from a PC faster than it blocks DMs sent from a phone because I could send the 26 left from my phone before going to sleep.


Day 4: I am still blocked from sending DMs from my PC on my main IG, and I got blocked after sending 3 DMs manually. Still blocked on FB as well. I am taking for decision to let every account that gets blocked sit for at least 24h, this feels like a HUGE waste of time but I cannot risk it.

Still warming up the other IG accounts from the PC. I also went ahead and created 3 other IG accounts for a different niche, I’ll share my journey regarding these on BHW as well.


Day 5: I can send DMs again on all platforms, but on FB I am still restricted from sending to people I’ve never talked to before, even if they are my friends (that’s weird). Small tweak to my FB DM strategy: since after over 100 cold DMs nobody even replied, I will now simply send friend requests and start conversations with those who accept it only. When adding FB friends I got hard limited at 25 in a row (error message showing “I cannot use this feature anymore right now”).


Day 6: Everything seems to be running smoothly, my plan is solid on all platforms, bot is managed and I’m not being restricted anymore anywhere. I feel my limit testing bore fruits and while I can and will optimize more things, I finally have a consistent flow of 1-2 new leads per day.


Day 7: Another smooth day, I get 2-4 replies to my first message per day (so a whopping 6% reply rate to my cold DM) but half of those are mean or stupid messages I have to discard. I think I can get better results on that front.

Next week I will try out a new first DM pitch, that should increase the number of positive replies I get every day.


Results:

DMs sent on IG: tons of restrictions + my bot broke a couple times, sent 205/1050.

DMs sent on FB: I’ve modified my strategy halfway to only DM those who accepted my friend request because on most days I was restricted, sent 30/175 DMs.

Appointments booked: 1/7

Analysis: I feel like this week was mostly about limit testing (and getting restricted a lot as a result) and warming up new accounts to bypass these limits. Let’s see what’s in store for next week now that I will (hopefully) not get limited as much.
 
Wouldn’t pretending to be a lady who gives dating advice increase your stats by a couple magnitudes?

Make an AI chick and have her give dating advice , seems way more likely to succeed given your low weekly outreach.

I am not sure that people would trust an AI chick lol. Plus anyways, generating trust and authority in my niche has never been a problem for me.

But I do agree that the weekly outreach is uber low and I need to find solutions to increase that number. This week I am focused on scaling up the outreach since the setup is in place and a "proof of concept" has been established as I've had a few calls with prospects... Let's see how I can do that.

Check online, but there definitely is a growing market for AI companions.
 
Using AI / fake chicks as a sales funnel for guys who pay for dating advice seems like peanut butter and jelly marriage to me .

Do you give away / sell an ebook or two yet?
 
UPDATE WEEK 4:

Day 1: Had to deal with life stuff so couldn’t work much today. The bot broke at some point also. I’ll deal with it tomorrow. Today I will only reply to prospects and post content.

Day 2: Back to work for real now. It seems that my bot breaks every time one of the users it’s supposed to send a message to changes their account’s name or deletes their IG. The customer service of the bot I use is clueless, have to find a better tool but not a priority rn.

I’ve set up the new first DM pitch which imo is 10 times less cringe-inducing and I’m confident I’ll get better responses to this.

Yesterday I had a bit of a “depression moment” seeing that I am on week 4 and still no money in. I feel so far from my objectives and I wonder if it is even possible sometimes. On the bright side: I have one prospect who agreed to a sales call to hear more about my services and another consultation call coming up this weekend.

Day 3: I’ve mostly spent the day making sure my bot doesn’t break and setting up the new accounts. One of them got restricted at 2 messages per hour for a week now, I’ll let it rest for a while.

Day 4: The new accounts are still warming up, it was actually a whole setup to make sure I can find leads then manage all those accounts at once from the same computer. I had a sales call with a fan, who said he loved my work but he had no budget. I’ll hit him up again in a few days with a huge discount in exchange for a testimonial.

Day 5: As of this morning I am now sending 100 DMs over 2 IG accounts per day and sending 25 friend requests on FB per day. I will try to increase the numbers on the FB side. Once the new IG accounts are ready I should reach my objectives in terms of volume.

Day 6: So I’ve been doing some research and apparently Facebook does not limit how many friend requests you can send per day, only during a certain period of time, which seems to be varying. I’m testing out more but I’ve managed to send over 50 some days, other days not more than 25. I think the “time frame” to send over 25 DMs is of a few hours and is extended if you do hit the limit.

Day7: My bot keeps randomly breaking but at least now I've developed strategies to fix it quick. On Facebook I seem to be limited to 225 FR per week, this was confirmed by a friend/competitor.

Results over 1 month

IG DMs sent 1389
Coffee chats from IG 4
Sales calls from IG 0
Sales from IG $0

FB FR sent 396
Coffee chats from FB 2
Sales calls from FB 0
Sales from FB $0

4 coffee chats from 1400 leads so I need to send 350 messages to get 1 coffee chat (what I call coffee chat is basically a first base sales call).

So to get 10 coffee chats (= 1 sale hopefully) I need to send 3500 dms. With 6 accounts that should take me 11 days on average.

Every DM has a 0.28% chance to land me a fan.

Every DM has a 0.028% chance to land me a client.

Data is beautiful.

And on top of that, I have to make sure those leads have money.

Maybe there is a way to qualify leads better, but for now I feel like I need at least 1 month of sending as many DMs as I can, get as many consultation calls as possible, to in the end get a bigger picture of who is a good lead, who I can close, and what is sustainable in the long run.

I just don’t feel like I can afford to refuse taking people on consultation calls just yet because I might miss opportunities I wouldn’t be aware of.

Maybe remove from my list anyone who doesn’t show their first name? At least that will remove businesses and weirdos who can’t even write their first name properly on IG.

I didn't make any money yet - which is sad. On the other hand, I have now a very tangible dataset that gives me a lot of hope. People actually care about what I have to say, some are even considering paying me, a complete stranger, from Instagram cold DMs.

Next month I will pump the numbers up with my alt IG accounts getting slowly warmed up. I have clear KPIs to reach, let's see in the coming weeks.

I have free and paid ebooks, books, video courses, etc. I guess I was too passionate about my stuff so I made all the content before I had anyone to really sell it to lol and now I realize how I took things from the wrong end.

Stay strong on your journey to build a business as coach !
What I not understand is this: how b2b coaches build a 7 figure business when they have 2x face to face 1:1 sessions with their clients a month? That's the biggest time sucking bottleneck , most coaches are here (exclude these Leadership coaches) for entrepreneurs on a month retainer between $500-1200 how youwill build a 7 figures business with that low price and doing a lot of 1:1 sessions ?

THE MAIN CHALLENGES: Keep in mind I am a total beginner in all of this with 0 education besides the book I read on marketing and business. Most of what I will do will be trial, error and guessing games.

In my opinion the bottleneck right now is getting myself in front of new people so my first objective is to send 50 DMs per day on Instagram (my FB account got restricted after I sent 20 DMs yesterday ... screw you Zuck!).

Daily sending cold or helpful DMs in IG? That's 1000 DMs in a month, to right target people , should bring you 100-300 downloads to your free email course and then landing your 5-6 premium clients on IG

Most influencers not doing commenting in groups, sending out daily DMs, they know the content method/format to get enough likes and comments and these likes and comments then will look at your profile and outreach to you, only when you target the right audience at the right time. This is a more focused but more easy lazy workflow, instead of sending tons of Dms on each social media platform, commenting in multiple groups on multiple social media accounts to get burnt out- right?

Setup the right social profile, the right content method, then the right funnel for your services.
