[Journey] Building a YT Channel

In early October, I saw an opportunity and created a video that started gaining some impressions and views.

Five months later (today), I see that the video has:
  • 200,000+ impressions,
  • 35,000+ views,
  • 400+ watch hours, and
  • 15+ subscribers.
It took me around 3 hours to create that video, which was >2 minutes long.
I still receive a few hundred views daily, so I plan to make a continuation of the previous video.

At the moment no concrete plan for this ultra-side-in-the-corner project is in place (will work on it this week), but I'd like to publish one video per month.

You have to start somewhere, even 1 video per month ( high quality) can make you go viral.

Just look at Mark Rober.

( Although he leveraged Halloween and some ingenuity)
 
Coming back to this, I'll write and share my rough plan.

March: 1 video (continuation of the previous one)
April: 1 video (new topic)
May: 1 video (continuation of the first one / if still applicable)
June + July + August + September + October + November + December: 7 videos (topics to be determined in May)

The workflow will look something like this:
  • 1 hour of research and scriptwriting
  • 30 minutes voiceover + trial and error
  • 1 hour 30 minutes faceless video editing
I'll try to complete all the steps for the March video in one day.
Theoretically, 3 hours per video x 10 videos = 30 hours of work.
(Additional hours for interacting with the audience. I am not going to track hours on these as it's a niche I'm curious about, so I'll probably do it via phone on breaks from other projects)

Goal: Get monetized by 31.12.2024.

I don't know how often I'll update this thread - that one I leave open. :)

I published the March video, and within the first day, it got 50ish views. Let's see how it develops until the end of the month.

March: 1 video (continuation of the previous one) ✅
April: 1 video (new topic)
May: 1 video (continuation of the first one / if still applicable)
 
I am back on planning the April video.

The second video didn't receive many views (350ish). I'm also a bit angry at myself because I tried to make the most beautiful thumbnail instead of the one that describes the video well, so I ended up with a 2.5% CTR. (The first video had 10%) I changed the thumb to something vanilla, and let's see if it has any effect.

Channel stats:
  • ~250k impressions
  • ~38k views
  • ~500 watch hours
  • ~20+ subscribers
I want to make these 8x in the upcoming six months.

As for the April/third video, I will go with a new topic. I will update you on how it goes :) !
(For the first topic, I'm #1 on YT/Google Vids, so the second video can just collect leftovers of the first onexD)
 
Small update: I published the April video, and it seems it will be a big disappointment! It doesn't rank at all due to high competition.
March video is doing okay, but still far from expectations. (I changed the thumbnail, and CTR dropped to 2.2%)
The first video is slowly stagnating but still gets 100ish views daily.

All in all the first video got me excited that this would be an easy thing to do, but hitting the first obstacle makes me think it won't be like that. I'll take a week or two break, and start working on the next video :)

It means that quality of the video was very good. You still need lot of subscribers to complete monetization.
 
Alright, time for update.

After publishing the video in April I didn’t do anything else until late December.

Then I started posting shorts. Since then I published 9 shorts and accumulated 7.5k views which is still far away from the monetization through shorts.

The difference now is that it takes me 2-5 minutes to publish a short (when I have material which is fairly random).

Let’s see where does this route take me.

As for the standard videos:
#1 Video - 50k views
#2 Video - 2k views
#3 Video - set to Private as it got 50 views

I’ll throw an update here if something more meaningful happens.
 
What type of videos are you creating? Is it faceless channel?
 
It will be hard if you publish 3 videos per year...I hope in 2025 you will be more active
