If you look at my posting history, pretty new to actually getting dirty with SEO and Wordpress.

I've decided on this niche due to the trend on social media I see of asian culture becoming more "mainstream" as well as being asian myself, so it'll be fun and easy to connect. I do have a sort of "headstart" of sorts as I'm piggybacking off a discord server with 4000+ members of the target niche (Asian teens).

As for what's happened, todays is day one.

Day 1:
  • Bought the domain
  • Setup the domain on SiteGround, had to Google how to setup SSL and stuff
  • Installed WP
  • Downloaded the Bimber theme as well as WP Rocket, Yoast. Thanks @Festinger
Things still need to do:
  • Logo design
  • Keyword research - so much could cover. Just cover viral news or also long form travel guides and stuff? PLUS QUIZZES
  • Set up the technical SEO and onsite stuff.
  • Maintenance page to go ahead and start collecting emails?
  • Really think about how broad I want to go with this. Set up an IG and stuff? This could really be a brand.

THere's really a lot here so if you guys want to link below services or sellers that may be able to help, let me know. Any links to any guides is also useful. Right now I'm just installing plugins and need to know which ones I need. It seems I should keep it minimal. Anything else I need besides the theme, wp rocket, and yoast plus the quiz plugin?

Cool idea!

Just thinking about who you will specifically be targeting, like Asians in America/Australia/other western countries, or Asians in Asia? Both could be interesting to expand on, massive markets either way. Could be some combination of both.

Interesting project though. Good luck!

Don't think it should matter. English is English is English. That would be niching down into articles like "best KBBQ restaurants in Melbourne" or something like that.

It could be good.

Was thinking of articles like reporting KPOP groups debuting, maybe covering some corona stuff and how different countries are covering it, infographics, etc.

The problem is I want to do this in the most cost-efficient way possible and probably get some affiliate commission first before i start spending $$ on infographics and stuff..

So I guess today is the end of day one. Talking to some content writers on here as well as /r/slavelabour on reddit. Trying to find people who are at least interested in the topics so proofreading them wll be a bit easier.

But I think I finally got the forum setup. Using BBpress and buddypress in tandem. I don't like how it looks though, trying to figure out if i can change the way the columns thread.

Setup the mailchimp.

Hired a logo designer I've used before.

I should get some sleep.

Day 2:
Logo designer still designing.
Got a WP designer on a consultation basis, where I pay him an hourly rate when I need questions asked.
Testing some content writers.
Siteground decided to be DDOS'd all day today so WP editing has been painfully slow so I wasn't really able to do anything.

Setting up a forum with Buddypress/bbpress is giving me the BIGGEST headache ever. I'm referring to documentation from the theme (Bimber) and source documentation from the plugins themselves and still have NO clue what I'm doing.

With my niche so broad I'm really struggling to figure out how to go about this. Yes KPOP and drama will be a huge part of this, but so will anime and just asian mainstream culture in general. Do I just focus on one niche and expand as I gain traffic?

I also want their to be cornerstone posts like extensive travel guides or a history of KPOP thing.

It's a lot of research and brainstorming so far.

Day 3 Update:
  • Got website mostly fixed. Set up the forum side, think I got the points/badge system working.
  • Got the logo today! IT IS ADORABLE.
  • Posted another article, Got almost 100 views in an hour (gotta love the power of KPOP and reddit lol). I know that views right now are vanity metrics but still.
  • Set up search console, submitted sitemap.
  • Used WP Rocket to help defer parsing and other speed stuff. Site is speedy!
  • talked to some people about quiz creating and the like.
Feeling Good, feeling good. Goal is now to just get content. Do some KW research as $ allows (paid) to focus on content outside of rewrite/reports.

Day 5? Days are blurring together.
Good news - Found writers, kind of am feeling my way to finding out what content I need to post.
Bad news - at what cost? I'm paying for Reddit upvotes/and posts and it's sending Traffic.
Good news - Already at 1500 views according to WP dashboard. Beginning to rank for some keywords in search console
Bad news - It's not consistent. Still haven't figured out a way to capture the traffic. Should I direct towards a FB group? Should I create one and have everything reposted there?

Concerns:
How am I going to monetize this? The bills are quickly stacking up. I've reached out to some people who have been able to monetize their quiz websites and asked for help because I don't want to try propeller ads yet - what's a good threshold for that? When I hit 10,000 monthly? What should I use to verify my traffic?

Any help would be appreciated.

Day 12(?)
Website is doing well, will probably surpass 4k total views before EOW. Steady posting of 1-3 articles a day. Haven't been targeting long string keywords tho, just kinda reporting and doing things.
Got some steady content writers on a volunteer basis as they believe in the project.

Biggest issue now is growing social media - anyone help or consult me on that?
