Only free resources, mostly in this forum. But I use paid tools like semrush and others (groupbuy).
I don't think you have to study like a lot, a lot, a lot, just choose a niche/subject that is not crowded, learn the basics and put it in practice. You'll learn in the way.
If you have some money, I wouldn't spend it in the beginning with backlinks.
Study about backlinks, PBNs and post articles for the keywords you've researched while you get some free backlinks reviews here in the forum.
When you learn how to "separate the wheat from the chaff" then you can start buying backlinks pointing to the articles that ranked better.
