I joined few weeks ago, and haven't posted anything other then a few thanks, because frankly I have have no clue what I am doing and had nothing helpful to add. The posts made here on this thread will hopefully be helpful and worthy of building my post count.

So, this is my thread. Follow along as you wish. I am entering the internet making business for one sole reason. I want to earn enough in the next year and a half to move form the US to Singapore for a year and attend school there. The cost of school and living is around $150,000 for my fiance and I.

I spent an entire weekend reading posts here on BHW and wanted to try everything! From 7878's OFM to Craigslist ad posting, but seeing as I have no idea what I am doing I wanted to start with something I am interested in. Which would be health and fitness. I will not post the name of my site, but if you look look between the lines and search you could probably find it. The idea behind my site is simple and probably not very profitable, but maybe you might be able help me. It is a wordpress based site styled like pinterest, and I post images that I make myself of motivational quotes. The site is linked to twitter, pinterest, facebook, and tumblr. Posts are automatically pushed to each site, and my follower count is slowly increasing.

I plan to monetize it by ads on the site relating to health, fitness, and weight loss and later on down the road i would like to sell poster prints of the images.

What I have done to this point:

1. Search for Quotes- 10 hours
2. Make first 80 images- 12 hours
3. Domain- $10
4. Hosting- $60
5. Set up site and social accounts- 8 hours
6. Apply to commission junction- passed
7. Apply to adsense- failed image based site
8. 2 hours each day last week posting, searching, and following to build base. - 14 hours
9. Buy two fiverr gigs for SEO (linkbuilding for 3 keywords)- $10
10. Make 20 more images- 2 hours

Cost: $80
Net Revenue: $0
Gross Revenue: -$80

Of coarse the list should be bigger from all of the other influence I have got from all of your posts, but this is the first one that I have used and put into action.

I actually have two websites in motion. For those of you that might be immature, I want you to know that I do not care what you say and I will be referring to my father quote often for he is apart of my second endever. Maybe sometimes I'll say daddy, who knows.

Either way... On to the second idea and I can be more open about this one. My father came to me wanting to partner up. He owns a machine shop that uses water jets for fabricating. A couple of years ago I drew a bottle opener that has been extremely popular and works as a great gag gift for guys and girls just love them.

I thought he was just kidding, or pulling my leg but he just called me and said that he ordered the domain and hosting. So tonight I will be working on a logo after I finish my Industrial Design homework. I will reveal the name possibly later on. I love it, and I think he did a great job choosing it.

updates for the quotes will be in red and the bottle opener will be in green.
Steps taken so far:

1. Talk about it
2. Buy domain and hosting - $110
3. Wish for more time in the day.

I don't know if anyone is following this. But I thought I'd give an update incase anyone was curious. Its been three days since my last update and I have posted 15 or so more photos. Followed more people on tumblr and twitter. Twitter caught onto tweet adder auto following people for follow backs and suspended my account. I got it back up and running. I am still using tweet adder, but only for continus updates. I have been contacted by several people two on which were trying to have me join under them in a affiliate program (USANA) and the other surprisingly was the Vince Lombardi Foundation thanking me for the quotes I did of him.

I am still waiting on the two Fiverr link building gigs to be completed and indexed. But, after reading for the last to days I realize that they the two of them were stupid choices and will be hard to rank for.

Numbers are still the same expect for 5 additional hours of posting, replying, and searching.

why are you going to school if you will make 150k ? you can live pretty well and then run a bigger business

I like your style - taking action. You will be successful for sure. Maybe not in your first run but I sense you got what it takes.

I just got back form a class, and I wanted to thank everyone for the posts. It really does help put a 'pep in your step' and boosts that confidence. I am on the edge though for disclosing my site name. I can't see where people would try to steal my idea. It isn't that original and all of my work is custom made by myself so... If you guys could posts the pros and cons to giving the site name, because I feel that many of the seasoned people could be of great assistance in tips and what not.

Right now I go to ASU am its pretty much just so I have a degree and can say that I do. But, honestly money isn't really important to me. I want to go to the school in Singapore so that I can become a Entertainment Designer which is my dream job and would be worth making 100g a year. Plus it seems like I could just outsource anything I wanted later on down the road if I wanted to.

Never post your site on this forum. There are a lot of people just wanting to troll, or have bad intentions and so on. (Negative SEO etc.)

Other than that, good luck on your Journey "outasite"! :)

Brainstorming time. Pinterest and Twitter seems to be really active. People favorite, repine and retweet throughout the day, but no one is coming to my site. Over last 10 days I've averaged 10 UV's per day with the highest being 20. Ads have received 163 impressions with no clicks, so I need to come up with something else.

I need to find a print on demand shop that offers black and white 18x24 prints, preferably one doll hairs to two fifty. A new theme will go along with it I think that still looks pinteresty, but shows prices showing viewers they can be purchased.

Alright last update for today.

1. Search for new theme .5 Hours
2. Try to find a printer that will print and ship my posters: FAILED 3 Hours
3. Try and work on my Facebook followers (having a hell of a time to get the count up) 1.5 Hours
4. Update my Pinterest.
5. Follow another 100 people on tumblr
6. Watch Suns vs. Lakers Game

Quick question about google analyitics. What are the few random views that pop up but have 1 page visit, 00:00 duration?

It might be you browsing the site. If i'm not mistaken, Analytics starts counting after 1-2 seconds.

Oh god.... You are setting yourself up for complete failure. I will be you 150gs that you wont make 20,000. How do I know?

1. Your setting your standards way too high. Why not make $5 before $150,000/
2. Your goal is money. Anytime we set a goal to make money we fail. Why? Because you cant control how much money you make. Noone can. You can set a goal to make a great business and the money flows in from there. Again, this is plain retarded.
3. You dont know anything therefore you will fail, fail and fail. This isn't for everyone and before you have failed dozens of times and learned how the process of making money works, then we can talk.

Good luck. Don't mean to put you down just letting you know how it works.

Well Dan,

I want commend you. Why, well you tell it like it is. No I will not stop. Yes, I read what you said and will attempt to prove you wrong. If I am going to fail at something I am going to fail big time so that it really hurts and so that I will not do it again. Something little and I could just shrug it off and not learn from it. I honestly do want to create something that people can benefit from.

So I will continue and learn what I can from the process. Sure ill make a load of mistakes and make a fool of myself. Yes some will make fun of me, but hopefully some will learn from it too

Alright well internet (cox) was down pretty much all day yesterday for me. In other words not a good day in terms of getting work done. I couldn't really update anything. However something really cool happened! I probably got really lucky but I changed the ads I was using from cj and well I got 6 clicks and 2 orders giving me $30. I wish they did the other ad... it has like a $50 return or whatever you'd call it.

A I mentioned before I found a new theme (haven't uploaded it yet), and I was looking for a on-demand B&W printer. I couldn't find anything on the interent the day before yesterday and yesterday I spent about 2 hours calling trying to find places. The trouble I'm having is that I need a 18x24 but that is too expensive for single prints and I can't do many prints because there is a vast amounts of options. I'm thinking of running a contest to find which ones people like the best and then make those in batch. Most likely set up a pre-sales page.

Oh hey Dan, not confident enough yet to take you up on that *bet* yet, but I'm up 6 times that pitiful $5 comment.

Follow your intuition :)

If your goal is $150k then just go for it, hustle hard and if you do it then you will get there, it wont be easy, but its possible :)

Godd luck

Ooops, I need to update my green section. I met with my father today to discuss the costs of the openers and how we should go about selling them. I myself nor my father do not party and do not drink so I asked him why we were selling bottle openers but a last no answer from him.

Technical aspects of them: Stainless steel .063 thick and will be dipped (electro polished). Ones with custom text cut and shipped for $20, Ones without for $15. We could get away with using aluminum but stainless is stronger and safe for food/drink.

Things to do:
1. Look deeper into the numbers (all costs)
2. Create a logo
3. Make the site
4. Find niche relating individuals with huge follower base
----Why? To send them samples so they can blog/tweet/whatever
5. Find some balls to cold call bars/bartenders

Here is a photo of them.... They look better when dipped.

$276 a day is roughly 100K a year or -obviously- 150K in a year and a half. It's probably better to think in these terms.. IF you can get to a that money steadily you're gold. Good luck!

Ahhh crap.... I have a account with pingdom and one other site that tracks my site's status. I just got a text and email saying that my site is down. I checked my email and there was update galor from twtter and pnterest. Pretty sure I just got throttled. I wonder who sent all of the traffic.
