[Journey] $0 to $5,000/month in E-Commerce

UPDATE #2

Just opened an LLC, will get my EIN monday so I can open wholesale accounts. I've found a couple good products already, so hopefully I can start purchasing inventory on monday/tuesday.

Still waiting on my etsy to be re-instated.

Any update on your journey?
I've opened my LLC, got my resale certificate and opened wholesale accounts with multiple distributors. My Etsy account is still suspended, submitted another appeal.

Sticking to amazon wholesale fba at the moment. Going to do product research this weekend and hopefully purchase inventory next week. I had found a product last weekend I was planning on buying, but by the time I opened my wholesale account and went to buy it was sold out. Im prepared this time though.

I started the thread because I thought I'd be getting started same-day, but unfortunately that wasnt the case haha. I'm not going to let this thread die out anytime soon. I'll add another update once I find my product and successfully purchase inventory.

What was sold out? Your Items?

Amazon FBA reg. - especially Brand registration at Amazon is tricky. Spent hours on hours.

getting that trademark is a pain in the ass to be approved for the Brand registry.

Update: honestly I'm not seeing the ROI's worth it in amazon.

#1, need at least 10-15k to make real money
#2, its very time consuming

I'd love to sell on etsy, as I have a partner highly skilled in etsy ranking, but they still wont re-instate my account after banning for no reason. I have no clue what to do for that, If anyone has suggestions, let me know. May just go with shopify and see what I can do there.

Currently working on my newsletter business and another business, thats where most my time is now. If I get reinstated on etsy i'll get this thread going right away

Good Luck!

Besides that, always follow the AMZ-FBA Guidelines, like not putting an Insert Card that redirects to your shop (it doesn't matter if there is a discount or anything)—you get a permanent ban.
I saw huge sellers - Millionaires who were BIG in retail but had no knowledge online; they made that kind of Mistake, more mistakes, taxes, etc. Bam - Down.
Im operating in this field a long time, always Product Hunting, but since 3 Niches already convinced me - I regged them as Trademark, and bought Domains, so all the Admin Staff before even making 1EURO.
Well, that's Germany.

Although I was not in the E-Commerce field, I learned a lot as an employee about managing complex projects, forecasting, and other similar tasks. But those are things Amazon FBA tools do for you.
You could use several excellent tools - expensive but well worth it.
I made the same mistakes, learned, stood up, fell again, stood up, and now it's going (thank God) pretty well, so I left my main Job and focused entirely on E-Commerce.
However, since I have this drive, I still proceed with other things, like creating content for YouTube, managing influencers, and building an SMM panel.

Anyways: For E-Commerce, at least in my Niche, where the product range is (on AMZ) around 30-40Euro / Dollar, you are unfortunately even "small" when you order a Container worth 60-70k and still have to wait, like a dmbass, because there are huge Sellers out there.
Cutting Delivery Costs, Designer for the Pattern of the Item, Licenses like GTIN (in Europe), this Barcode, and many more little things kill your Margin.
So keep an eye on every little Penny you spend.
You can make some little tweaks to outperform your closest competitors, a kind of "grey hat," but it—at least for two of my brands—is not that easy to outperform. Almost everything, except taxes, gets reinvested.
I have never worked with PCP, etc. I am just doing regular Sales with good SEO, but I will consider this Block as well because the next Delivery is coming in one Month.

If you are not selling small Items (because Big items are obviously expensive for Warehouse storage) and have the capacity at home or rent a small Warehouse, then make a Calculation and include it in your Forecasts.

Do not forget the "indirect" (sorry, I'm not a native speaker) costs, like human capital: The time you invest, while you could do other things, is also a key factor for me. Not that I'm calling myself a "Hustler," but in my previous jobs, working up to 80 hours a week, it was hard to get rid of this attitude. It's 05:37 a.m., and I'm still working on other things.
So keep this also in mind: Do not work that long, prioritize things properly, and most importantly, if the train is already running, you are probably too late, and sunk costs will hurt you.
I made those mistakes, as I said, with Dropshipping as well.
Pick the Products with a clear mind, don't fall in love with them, and always keep the price (your own budget planning) in mind—and you are good to go!

Etsy is also something I want to step into. But there are too many things to consider, even for me, who has the practical knowledge (low-mid)—my Partners (Uncle & Dad—experts in Retail)—I'm more or less the online counterpart.
And the advice I got from them was the best.
Negotiate, negotiate, negotiate—even if they say the last price, play hard. Build a good relationship with the Supplier, and you will succeed.
What i need to learn now is propper targeting for my products.

If you have any questions regarding Product hunting, trends, etc., I could help without selling anything or something like that—we can talk about that in chat here.

Besides learning things on BHW regarding SEO, I'm thinking of some Business Ideas for Etsy, preferably digital goods, which are also oversaturated but still trial and error.
So the beginning will be hard if you decide - I know as of now you don't want to, but in case you have your trademark and want to product products on your behalf, don't forget to Apply for Amazon Registry Brands - as I already said previously :)
It's a pretty weird and complicated process that you have to follow.
But the advantages are worth it. Just the ABC layout you can implement on your Selling Page makes it pretty attractive!

I am super excited about your Journey following this Thread.

It would also be interesting if Dropshipping AMZ to ebay still is worth it.
To answer the eBay question in general (someone asked): Yes, at least in Europe, there's still one big marketplace to play.

Good luck!

Kind regards,
zotix

Hey mate, does your partner in etsy ranking offer this as a service?

Update #3

No longer selling on Amazon. I created a POD shop on shopify for trump apparel and accessories. Hoping the upcoming 2024 election will help it.

Im specifically targeting trump audience because you never see a biden fan repping biden gear, but you always see trump fans repping trump gear. I've heard instagram/meta doesnt favor republican ads, but we will see how it goes.

The site is pretty much setup, just need to optimize it a bit more to look better, edit color variants for my items, as well as shipping and prices of the items.

whatup bhw,

im new here, but have seen this site pop up for a bit. finally decided to open an account and share my journey starting fresh with e-commerce. I've dabbled into e-commerce when covid hit, just before dropshipping blew up. I was doing the good old amazon/walmart to ebay dropshipping and was doing pretty good considering I had no knowledge of e-commerce. I then went to shopify dropshipping, no success on my first store, until I learned how to properly setup ads and optimize my page for conversions. My second store was very profitable, bringing in a couple thousand a month net profit.

i then got into wholesale FBA. learned the ins and outs: product research, ppc, listing optimization, keyword research. never found a product I was willing to pull the trigger on. I was working at the time, and the $1,000-2,000 needed for wholesale was a bit of a risk for me.

fast forward now I have my certificate in marketing & e-commerce, as well as experience in running multiple stores. I've learned product / keyword research, listing optimization, ads, and more.

Platforms I will be selling on:

  • Amazon (wholesale or private label)
  • Etsy (print on demand)
  • Ebay ( wholesale or dropshipping)

I have no clue what im going to sell on amazon or ebay, I am going to start product research today and see what I can find. preferably I want to get into automotive niche in ebay, so Im going to look for car part suppliers.
I would recommend you to get started with Google Trends, and TikTok Creative Center which are free tools. And if you decide to get further with product research, I would suggest paid tools like Ad Spy, Minea, and PipiAds and I’m actually glad that I was able find a deal for all of the tools (AdSpy, Minea, Pipi Ads, Peeksta, Chat GPT Plus, Dropship io, Shop Hunter, Ads Answer, Shophunter, Magic8, Canva Pro, Helium 10, PinSpy, DropisSpy, Eleven Labs, Exploding Topics, Brain.fm) for just 29.99/month. They also dropped some paid Shopify themes on their discord and will have access to them if you join.

I just wanted to ask, why not simply Shopify + FB IG Ads? But seems you're going there.
