To Op What a great post. But just a few quick question from a noob like me.

1) How do you install Google Analytics in WP? Sorry but I have never ever used WP before hence I wanted to ask this so that I know my traffic.

2) How did you search that your pages were indexed by google in just a day?

3) And do you think that a noob like me should install awstats? Or keep it for the Big Boys like You

" Make sure you email your self all the methods OP is sharing" Just incase something changes here and the post disappears then you will atl east have something handy Learned it the hard way with a post I was subscribed too which was transferred to the JR.VIP section.

Also people should refrain themselves by just posting subscribed or TY messages. Better keep the thread short and have all the info handy.

cbnet Ping Optimizer is indeed free : hxxp://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/cbnet-ping-optimizer/ (sorry, cannot post links yet)

Also, it does stop exceeding ping. There is an option in the configuration menu "Limit excessive pinging in short time" where you can put how many times and at which time interval.

Pretty useful if you ask me. It doesn't hurt to have it just in case.

Applying this to an existing six month old blog. Thanks "crashed" for taking time to share this with everyone. This is the best "how to" thread I have ever read on bhw.

1/ You may want to consider an alternative called Statpress. Its a free plugin that give a wealth of information on your visitors. Some prefer this to Analytics for reasons I could go into but maybe best not here.

2/by simply typing; site:mydomain.com This will list what pages are indexed in Google.

3/ Isn't awstats standard with a cpanel hosting account. Statpress plugin does offer a pretty similar wealth of info. Ps. i have no affiliation to statpress lol

When doing keyword research it should be "Exact" searches... However we are not doing keyword research, we are just cheating google by asking google what it expects to find on our website.

There was a product in 2009 that was $2k and 300+ pages (currently sits on the top shelf...)... And the one point it made was just to deliver what google wants and you will succeed. If google expects them keywords on our site, lets put them on our site ay?

Crashed?. Do you ever use the plugin cbnet Ping Optimizer?

The reason I ask is. When people update or publish their post/page then wordpress by default pings your newly created article.

Now I personally use easy WP SEO. I have also used SEOpressor too. What this does is requires you to press 'publish' to get your SEO score and quite often you are pressing publish in a bid to increase your score naturally.

Its a great tool and really helps get your basic SEO correct first time, however it does continue to ping which can possibly lead your site to be banned due to excessive pinging.

The 'cbnet Ping Optimizer plugin' stops this and its free. Apparently lol.

What do you think?. Worthwhile or not?.

In terms of plugins, the one thing I want to stress here is that the more plugins you use, the slower your site will become...

At this point in time I have no intention of using any of these plugins. Continual pinging will just lead to an eventual ban as if you have no new content why ping? In terms of SEO it is far more effective just to write some decent twitter tweets with your website link in them...

I will adding a stats plugin, I would avoid analytics at the moment as it will slow it down and isn't worth it for what you get...

1. Simply don't install analytics. I will covering a stats plugin in Day 2.

2. Goto google and type into search "site:www.mydomain.com" and this will tell how many pages are indexed.

3. AWStats is normally standard in cPanel (just look through your cPanel options). Feel free to have a look at it, and I will cover it in a later post...

In terms of this thread disappearing, I don't think it will, and if it does I have an exact mirror of it on my blog here: http://www.crashedchallenge.info

I think i missed this post in my big one, here are the reasons I don't think it is neccessary.

Generally when you install wordpress it comes with just one ping site, http://rpc.pingomatic.com/.

Now next time you publish a post, goto http://pingomatic.com/ and try and ping your blog manually. You will see that they automatically limit the number of pings you can send...

Now with this plugin installed, instead of just trying to send a ping. Wordpress will look through the installed plugins, load this plugin, let this plugin do what ever it does, and then send its ping. More work, more overhead = slower site

Summary: Plugin not needed as pingomatic.com does it for us....

I remember the same thread. What a ping site does is just go out and tell the search engines that you've update the blog... Getting the same message from multiple different ping sites isn't really going make that much more difference.

Thanks for this Crashed. I have bought the domain and hosting and am setting up Wordpress. I have a simple question though in regards to the ABOUT page and the PRIVACY page. I am doing this in Spanish, so should I leave the titles and links for these pages in English or change them to Spanish? My domain ends in .es for Spain and the content will be in Spanish. Does anyone know if google recognize these pages in Spanish?

There is a local spanish google search, if your content is in spanish do your titles in spanish as well.

Just remember that a lot of advertising networks require sites in the english language..

Special Resource: How to backup your website...

After putting so much work into our website we want to protect our investment and keep our work safe. Though many webhosts claim to backup your website for you, it is important to keep your own backup. In the past 10 years I have spoken to at least 1000 people that have lost their website content, and their webhost has corrupted or out of date backups.

I recommend that once your blog is ready to use you make a cPanel backup which stores all your files and databases. For blogs you are constantly update I tend to backup once a week (or if you are typing your posts direct into your blog after every new post).

How to make a cPanel backup

A cPanel backup will include all your files, databases and settings for your entire hosting account. To do this...

1. Log into your cPanel control panel
2. Click Backup Wizard
3. Click Full Backup, select to save it in your Home Directory, and enter an email address to be notified on when the backup is complete.
4. Click Generate Backup
5. Once your backup is created (you will get an email telling you it is ready), go back to your control panel and click Backups.
6. Click Download or Generate a Full Backup.
7. Look in the list of Backups Avaliable for Download in the list and click the one with todays date. Click Save and select where you want to save it on your computer and click save.

Once you have saved it on your computer you have a backup of your website in case anything goes wrong. The video is here:

How to make a Wordpress backup

A wordpress backup contains just your posts, pages and comments. I recommend that you try and do this once a week, or if you add content directly into Wordpress after every post.

1. Log into your Wordpress admin dashboard.
2. Click the down arrow on the tools menu, and click on Export.
3. Select All Content, and then click Download Export File.
4. Click Save, and select where you want to save this to.
5. You now have a backup file of all your posts, pages and comments from your blog.

Once you have downloaded this file you have made a backup of your blog posts, pages and comments. The video demonstrating this is here:

How to restore a Wordpress backup

Having a backup is no use if you do not know how to restore it, I will demonstrate briefly the basics of restoring a wordpress backup here. However please do not try this on your current blog as it is meant to be used on a new install of wordpress only. If you need to restore your blog from a backup use the following steps.

1. Install wordpress, add your theme and any plugins.
2. Delete the default post and pages from wordpress.
3. Click on the down arrow for the Tools menu, and then click Import.
4. Click on Wordpress in the list (You can also use this method to import content from blogger etc).
5. In the box that appears click Install Now, when it is done click Activate Plugin and Run Importer.
6. Click Browse and select the wordpress backup file you want to restore back into the blog. Click Submit.
7. When it says done, check your blog to check that the content has been imported.

The video below shows the basics of this method, however it does not include the first 2 steps to save me time.

Ummm, gotcha. One of the agreements I had to make with HaRRo to be allowed to post this here was that I couldn't include any refferal/affiliate links. This is being taken from the Crashed Challenge blog (http://www.crashedchallenge.info) and I am just stripping out any links etc.

Something I am still trying to work out is how to handle signup to CPA etc as for people on my blog I have spoken to my Affiliate Managers and they will automatically approve people doing the challenge (even those with little knowledge) into their networks as they know I am a great tutor. Also I have arranged some free access to certain software programs etc.

However it's all still free on my blog and those interested can probably search google and find the deals.

I hope this clarifies it a little.
