I'd vote WP even for some kinds of non-blog sites. It is just great.

I'd echo what many have said. Joomla for more complicated user based sites. Wordpress for simple sites and blogs.

My 2 cents --
I have a reseller account with Host Gator and it comes with WordPress in the Fantastico section. I couldn't imagine life without it. WordPress has every plugin in the world. You can make it a nonsense blog, or a professional website with a $50.00 template. I was saving money and debating to get Vbulletin for a site to upload pictures to posts etc. By default WordPress doesn't have that, but I was able to find a plugin that allows it. So now I don't have to invest in something as fancy as Vbulletin just yet. I offer unlimited everything when I setup a WordPress website with unlimited bandwidth, e-mails, storage, etc. for people for $10.00 a month and people just love it.

Hello all
Ok, so I want to have a go at bloggingI already use Joomla with templates from Rocket theme. They also offer great looking WP templates. but are Joomla and WP pretty much the same, both free, Open source. easy to use and adust?
Does anyone else use Joomla here for blogging or should I just take a look at WP?

we are using joomla , jomla is Open source. easy to use and esay to implement for SEO and blogs , you can find easly guidline for building blogs in joomla

Hey scouser,
If this is your main site, something that has to run fast and reliable... do NOT chose a cms.
My little experiences tells me that WP is very decent if you want to build up something fast where you can use a lot of given stuff. Joomla is comparable, just that you are able to maintain a much larger site because of Joomla's higher flexibility but have less SEO plugins available.
Yet, both systems are, if you are on a shared hosting, extremely slow. Just check it with the pingdom tools. You will barely find a cms with under 1s load time. Not to mention the security aspect of the game...
My advice if you are really only going for blogging: invest some time to understand static website generators like jekyll, octopress or, more advanced, nanoc. In this way, you will never have a problem even with 10k+ visitors a day, database injections or other *urgent security updates*.

Wordpress definitely, with Squirrly SEO i make all my articles optimized 100% for search engines and I use yoast for some special SEO settings. it's most suited for content marketing

I use both joomla and wordpress and I must say that go
for Wordpress if you just want to blog. Somehow, blogging
and Joomla hasn't worked out so well for me. I tried installing
some blogging extensions on my site and it didn't work out so
great. Had to go through the trouble of moving my sites to another
platform. Now I have a blog in joomla with no commenting system
cause I can't figure out how to install it.
