Joomla or Wordpress for new blog?

+1 for Wordpress, Joomla is overcomplicated.
Wordpress is simple, fast and powerful with all addons available.

Sure you can have a Wordpress blog "within" Joomla. Simply install the Wordpress blog in a different directory then Joomla is then add a link to your Joomla site to it. Now the tricky part of that is that you have to skin the Wordpress blog to look like your Joomla site and maintain two sets of main menus through each system normally. That is what WestHost has done. Well they don't use Joomla but for thier forum here and their blog the web designer for Westhost has created templates that include the header and footer HTML that is on their main site. I will warn you that this is not always and easy task. It depends on you level of HTML and PHP knowledge and then beyond that you need to dig in and learn how the template system for each program.

Wordpress if you want to put up site easy and fast, since Joomla can be little bit tricky if your new but gets beast when you get used to it ;D

Both have a good and attractive themes...

Wordepress theme is very easy to learn and edit for yourself its not more difficult..

Wordpress is much easier to use and you can get things done within a matter of minutes after sign up. Good luck.

I'm for WP for blogging, it is stable, very customisable, easy to worck with and SEO friendly

My past experience with Joomla is not very pleasant. It is complicated, you had to pay for the better plugins and you had little customization. On top of that, WP is proven by people to be the best for blogging and many more...

i would say go with WP , i used booth and i would vote for WP .
its more flexibile easier to use and the number of plugins for WP is huge.

would recommend Wordpress, as so many plugins are available here

A lot of people say Joomla for larger sites, and Wordpress for blogs, though I have gone from using Joomla to using Wordpress on all sites. So it is not just for blogs IMO.

I recommend Wordpress if you are a newbie, yet if you need more complex websites then Joomla is what you need.
Joomla 2.5 is great but it's slightly more complex and have some learning curve, chose it if you have been in to web design/developement for some time

No doubt WORDPRESS is the first and the last choice...so easy to make a blog or website on it, too much user friendly and PROUDLY POWERED BY WORDPRESS.

Dude, Wordpress is much much better as compared to Joomla , if you want to use it for blogging. I have been blogging from last 4 years and I have used almost every available platforms including blogspot, joomla, drupal, wordpress, tumblr ...so on....Nothing beats Wordpresss (Hosted on your own)...Its much better and lovely !

I don't recommend WP for anything, because is been so over used. Your blog is gonna be sand boxed quick until you build quality on it. But if you just want a blog and nothing else like a strong user profile management, content structure and other things. Then WP is your best choice. If you need a real CMS not just a blogging tool then Joomla or Modx. While all of them are CMS's WP is a blogging tool and Joomla is a Site builder tool. This are two different things even you are building a website.
