I thought I would share my journey to give people some ideas and encouragement to go out and put thoughts to action.
Background:
I decided to start my own local lead gen/pay per call network for my ex-wife who's losing her job at the end of the month. She's a rockstar sales person but got burned out on her job. I have been trying to get her to sell local internet services for a while now since it's similar to what she already does.
We've been making some sales on the side while she does it part time but I wanted to branch out into a performance based system that continues to pay over and over again. That's what made me decide to start a lead gen/pay per call network.
Method 1:
This method is from a WSO I got out of the download section. It has to do with ranking youtube videos and/or local websites.
Step 1: Have a video made. Found a guy on Fiverr for $5. DONE
This is the service I used:
Step 2: Setup a local phone number. I went to twilio and bought a local phone number. I forwarded it to a local business just so it goes somewhere in case of phone calls. DONE
Step 3: Upload the video to youtube, geo target it, and add content. DONE
I added in about 350 words of content with geo targeted keywords. It reads like a services offered page with calls to action. I geo targeted it on the map and added keywords for tags.
Step 4: Order SEO services. DONE
Now I'm just waiting for it to rank. 1 of the keywords bounced into the #2 position. Another keyword has been bouncing in and out of SERPs hitting the top of page 2 when it shows up. I'm at a wait and see at this point while the SEO services I have purchased take effect. I've bought so many services lately I honestly can't remember which ones I used but I no longer spam my stuff. I want to keep rankings long term.
Step 5: Once site ranks and starts getting phone calls, contact the business and show them the leads. Sell them on either renting the video or doing pay per call. I'll probably go with pay per call. I already know someone in the business that I can contact to get my foot in the door. NOT DONE
Method 2:
Since SEO takes a while I decided to do something that would give me quicker returns. For this one I'm going to be hitting PPC for the traffic.
Step 1: Find the niche where keywords are affordable enough so I don't get killed getting my feet wet. DONE (Don't ask me which niche)
Step 2: Get a custom lander designed. This needs to have a strong call to action. In my case the phone number is most important followed by a form capture for after hours. IN PROGRESS
I used these guys for that:
Cost was $90 upfront and $90 on delivery for a total of $180 (1 page). The first draft turnaround was less than 24 hours. Second draft again was less than 24 hours. Waiting on final draft. So far I'm impressed with the speed and the design. I've had nothing but problems with designers from BHW.
Step 3: Write up content for the lander. Add privacy page, and whatever else I might need for it. I have to look into how to get good adwords quality scores. I'm not big on PPC so it's somewhat new to me. NOT DONE
Step 4: Setup a phone number with Twilio and call tracking. NOT DONE
You can track calls through Twilio but I was turned onto this company that I decided to give a try:
They integrate well with Twilio and it looks like it's a one time fee. Still have to read through everything but from what I am told it looks like they have a lot of options for different things.
Step 5: Post the site live. Setup website tracking and whatever else I may need. NOT DONE
Step 6: Setup PPC ads and keywords. NOT DONE
Step 7: Create contracts for pay per call service. Figure out a price per call. I will probably start at $50 per call for any calls over 2 minutes. Not sure what price point is good but I'm trying to take into account the amount of money the business will make for leads that turn into customers. The problem is I don't know what their close rate is. Have to research some. NOT DONE
Step 8: Find a local business who wants phone leads. My ex-wife will likely cold call businesses. Remember this is a pay for performance since they are only paying for calls they get. So it's a much easier sell. NOT DONE
Step 9: After closing the deal set campaign live and work on getting conversions. NOT DONE
Step 10: Expand to other cities. If everything goes well I will start expanding to other cities. NOT DONE
I think I covered everything. If you have any questions let me know. I'm not going to give out my niche or show my lander so don't ask. Hopefully, this will motivate some of you to take action.
