BHW Team,

My company will likely roll out a PWA rather than a website + native app for our newest business iteration. We have been researching the potential pitfalls of PWAs, and one that seems to pop up is RANKING!!! We cannot suffer ranking issues, and I've been trying to understand why PWAs would impact ranking.

This Google webinar belwo flirted with an answer @ 54:18... They said the way JavaScript is used can impact ranking... maybe... any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure the main content / links on your site is not JS-dependent. The big issue a lot of sites run into with this setup is that they load JS on the client's side, when it should be on the server-side. Installing something like pre-render fixes most issues.

Sounds like with these issues and the iOS incompatibility, I should just stay away from running a PWA.

You could still go down the route, just do your research and leverage communities.

I'm outsourcing the development. I'm not confident the development team will make sure all of that happens. Thank you so much for pointing out the details I needed.
