I don't believe in black hat or white hat SEO. I believe in SEO. Google has a pretty straight forward set of guidelines that they suggest you stick to if you want to be prominently featured in their SERPs.

I see so many complaints on this forum about Google and "quality content" not working any more, or links not working any more, or even SEO not working any more, and it's BS.

SEO has never been just one factor. It's not just quality content and it certainly is not just link building. Regarding content, even if you perfectly optimize "quality content" only users can decide if your content is really quality or not. Bounces from your page back to Google is a massive signal for Google, especially if it's a low authority (low authority can be age-related, content-related, consistency of posting related, does the site have a real audience with real readers etc.) sites. Most often those complaining that they are outranked by crappy content is people in niches that are known for spammy tactics, like adult sites, dating and online gambling. Because everyone else is using spammy tactics (scraped and spun content, PBN link building etc.) then you think you can beat them by joining them and doing the same thing? And then you are surprised when you can't rank your brand new domain? Because I'm not surprised and neither is Google.

Google has on-page factors that it looks at, but stop neglecting the user experience and how they interact with your content and you will be fine. Scraped and spun content is a short term SEO tactic, and eventually it always tanks and you have to start over. Build a real audience by producing good content that readers actually like and find informative, on a domain that has consistently been producing content for years, and you will get the rankings you are looking for.

Stop crying about Google and how they are screwing you when you are trying to do as little effort as possible to get rich quick. SEO is not dead, and neither is good content. The only thing that is dead, is crappy SEOs. Google has never hid the fact that they are trying to get rid of crappy SEOs, and they do a pretty good job at it. And crappy SEOs only have themselves to blame for losing their rankings.

Well, that is the absolute hard truth that many fail to understand.

Unless you are a native English speaker and/or have money to invest in quality writers, chances are, you won't succeed with affiliate sites.

Better put that energy developing a site for your local market if that is the case.

Ahhh this is what everyone trying to make millions of dollars with SEO is missing... "Just do what Google says in their guidelines"... profound stuff OP.

Next stop => position #1 on all keywords!

I'm not a sensei and this is not Karate Kid. But honestly, I see it so much on BHW, and then when you look into it they guy complaining is using scraped and spun content, along with PBN links, and then suddenly it's Google's fault that they don't rank. Hahaha

Thank you Sensei

You say that sarcastically, but then there are daily threads of all these Google updates and the whole conspiracy theories people come up with.

Mans spot on here, let's be real with it.

Hmmmm.. maybe it's regular algo changes that randomly fuck over sites sometimes even when they play by the rules... hmmm not sure.

Yeah, don't talk nonsense. You have no idea what people have experienced and how a google update has impacted them.

I have had my fair share of ups and downs. Massive down in November 2019 and then massive up in May 2020.... nothing changed in terms of site content or links.

Other people experienced the opposite.

I have has some sites with the same theme, layout, interlinking, similar niches, and the same writing team behind them being impacted completely differently by a google update.

So, stop being on a little high horse spouting stuff you have no idea about. You might be lucky and have never been impacted by a google update. For all I know you might have one site with 20 page views a day and think you know everything, but you don't.

Or, maybe, (and stick with me here because I know this is something that isn't said out loud here all that often) Google has become really good at identifying scraped and spun content and they can see a PBN from 100 miles away, and as such they push the crappy sites out of the results.

Just a thought. Use it, don't use it...

Agreeable.. but my point is that this information is commonly known and easily findable with a simple Google search, not that it's incorrect.

Maybe mate, but saying that the only reason that people fail with SEO is because of spun content is as silly as saying that in order to perform in the SERPs you just have to follow Big G's guidelines.

Also I don't think Google can see PBN's from 100 miles away at all.. they can see shite PBN's from 100 miles away, though, you're right.

You didn't change anything sure. But I'm just guessing that some other SEOs trying to rank for what you target maybe changed their content/site/link building etc.

I have also had my fair share of ups and downs with my own site. I've had the same with many of my clients. Then I can blame Google or I can reassess and start with a new strategy. One thing is for sure: Complaining about Google is not going to improve rankings.

I would agree that google has to sieve the cream from the milk in terms of which sites should rank, but a small study in finding other sites in your niche, you will find many that at most took a day to build. Fair enough if you start here, but many people build a shitty site, and then don't do anything else until they get results there, which never comes.

Nah, a shift of 300k page views a month after a Google update has nothing to do with what competitors are doing. That's a seismic shift in what Google thinks quality looks like.

Nobody said that complaining would help, but saying its your fault you aren't ranking anymore is not strictly fair.

Agreed. That sounds very much like Google decided there is better (more relevant) content out there. I think the fact of the matter is, how the user interacts with the page once they have clicked on your result in the SERPs plays more of a role than SEOs or Google would care to admit. Human quality assurance basically.

And that what appears to be 'crappy' is being leveraged by competitors for neg SEO. That's a pain in the ass.
