Is Yoast "keyword density" formula flawed?

I am building an authority site based on rschmitz's Amazon thread. I am using Yoast SEO plugin. It tells me...

Your focus keyword was found in:

• Article Heading: Yes (1)
• Page title: Yes (1)
• Page URL: Yes (1)
• Content: Yes (1)
• Meta description: No

...and yet my keyword density is reported as .04 percent when I only have 252 words so far in my article. It would appear Yoast is only counting keywords that appear in the body of my article to calculate density, which would be in this case, once. Is this this correct.

I've always counted the number of times the keyword appears on the page, url excluded, to calculate density. Which is the right method? Somebody?

yes , obviously yoast only counts words in the post. You can't call it flawed as it is limited by wordpress over there. I generally have an external page grader which checks on page seo after the post has been made , then I make necessary changes .

So can you recommend a good page grader...and what is yoast good for if I can't trust its analysis?

Yoast only check the content and not even the title. You check the density of whole page not just content.

Yoast is good for reminding you to put all necessary items in there like alt tags, h1, keywords, length etc.. in your article.

For full page analysis I use seobook keyword tools.

I would follow yoast it does suggest the right stuff its number one for a reason on wp seo plugin's.
