Is this keyword too good to be true?

I was playing around with market samurai in the weight loss niche and found a niche with a surprising amount of green for such a largely searched topic.

None of these sites are above PR5 (average PR2), none of them has over 100 backlinks except for the 9th which has almost 2000, and almost none of them are site optimized for the keyword (none of them have education or governemnt backlinks, title, description, header, yahoo direct, dmoz, etc.)

This almost seems too good to be true.

The only catch is that that have very high domain ages (there are five 12yr old sites, yelp is in 5th place with 14 yrs old.

I'm a newbie, I have no idea how to build backlinks, I even downloaded senuke, and all the sites I blasted still have no backlinks after a month.

So I'm scared, but do you guys think that I found a good niche? Or am I being dazzled by the low backlinks, and ignoring the fact that they all have insane domain age?

I would just go for it and see. After all what have you got to loose ?

As I've learned from the wonderful mentors here at BHW, you should try investigating the top competition more. Does the backlinks for those sites contain the keyword? Are they actively promoting those pages? If not there's only one way of finding out: by trying

Domain age is important factor but not only one... So i will say go for it since other factors can be achieved easily... If you plan your strategy carefully then soon you will be ranking there and making good money...

if you're just going off a broad match search, make sure to check your phrase and exact match searches first.

I've had cases where broad match looks beautiful, thousands per day, even phrase appears good, yet there's really only 10-20 exact match searches when you look at it

I checked the exact search. It's still hundreds a day which is good enough.

I'm asking this because this is my last chance. I'm quitting internet marketing after this final attempt. I've been doing this for two years now, and haven't made a single cent. I've tried every basic method to no avail.


I know many of you guys have your own teams (looking at you bizroot) and such, but I'm just by myself. I wouldn't even know how to even begin to approach something as tough as acai berries (bizroot again) or other crazy keywords.

I just want to know, for a newbie, do the stats I gave you indicate that I have a good chance at ranking in the top 5? Or do the domain ages have more weight than it seems?

Backlinks are important for sure but it's the quality of the links. The age of a site matters a lot more than most think when you are looking at a long term project.

I don't do those "let me make money for 3 weeks and move to the next project" sites myself... my goal is for my sites to do well for as long as I am alive and provide a nice annuity for me.

Take your time, continue to build backlinks, write some articles and get backlinks and direct traffic and monetize that site.

Try it, but personally i would stay away from any of the high search terms in a weight loss niche, it will probably be too good to be true. Its like viagra, one minute your up, the next your down, and the time and money you've spent staying up, isnt worth it mostly. Viagra, now thats a niche, lol..
