So I just signed up for cable internet and they keep trying to get me to get TV and all these extra features such as wire maintenance and cloud storage. I just signed up for Internet for a reason,I'm not interested in the long ass sales pitch of your other services that are crap.

This is just a general business model for a lot of companies.

They see it as while they got you for one thing why not try and get you for other services they do. It may annoy a lot of people, but you will be surprised how many extra sales they get from doing this.

You can make stuff akward and make them stop calling you by asking them a questions... i do this quite often and i havent had ANY ringer for maybe few months

do they force you to listen to long sales pitches, can you not just say "no, I only want Internet"?.

There is no way you honestly don't understand this concept.
There is no way you believe that EVERY internet provider in only the USA offers other services.

It's called UPSELLING, and everyone does it. Even if it was just an internet only company, they would try to sell you a faster line, a better router, virus protection, or whatever else.

the other day i got a sales call for 1 year of free tv, and it would reduce the cost of my internet (ie tv + internet combined would cost less than just internet). I couldn't get the price of tv+internet for just internet... quite odd

In order to complete my offer they would request some more info, give me a sales pitch. Ask for some more info,and give me another one for something else.

They guy was trying to rack on another $50 a month or more with more services.

It seems like the Internet companies here started out as either Telephone or Cable TV companies,and use the internet as a marketing gimmick to get people to get into expensive phone and tv service contracts.

They're upselling you and it happens in any country where people care about money so no, it's not just in the U.S. I do agree that it can be annoying when people overdo it.

Tell me you are joking, and I will let it all slide. But if you are being serious, I just don't know what to think. Once again, do you REALLY think there are no Internet ONLY Service Providers in the USA? Do you think its some BIZARRE European concept for someone to ONLY offer Internet Services?

You are just used to seeing the larger companies, the ones who have a lot of money for marketing. It just doesn't make financial sense for people to only offer internet services as a business, so there are VERY few companies who can do it. They would never be able to compete with the big companies as far as pricing goes, so you can usually only find them in small cities, or with Dial Up internet services where Broadband isn't available.
