Is this domain worth $1000 ?

Even if it was named newsclub.com it still wouldn't be worth $1,000. It's just a domain name, and without a full fledged viable plan for use and implementation into a monetized vehicle, it's about useless.

Without strong domain metrics it's just words in a domain name. As others have said, the presence of "the" in the name really detracts from it's value - but it is noteworthy that "the" has other connotations than the simple common usage. So a smart marketer can make the place to go - "The" place to go. So maybe it has potential to add as much value as it detracts - not $1000 worth of potential though.

If you're just starting a new domain just buy something memorable, and something brandable. You and many others remain stuck in the EMD mentality when normal people aren't looking for things that way as much as they used to. Anything can become brandable, but if your name includes direct references to what you do, then you limit not only your branding capacity, but also your long term lateral and vertical growth opportunities.

For me branding a news site is less about ensuring that "news" is in the title, and more about having a nice simple catchy name PLUS always providing amazing content that is exclusive. Write real news stories. Use great copy. Get the killer headlines and simple graphics or real AP photos, etc... and build a news site. I'd probably call it something like "prezzed.com." < -- You'll probably be late to the party on this one, but as of when I wrote this it was available. This type of name is simple, but has a direct correlation to the classic imagery of a newspress(prezzed), so it can easily be branded with logos of that nature.

Anyway, the takeaway here is really that the domain name you asked about it over-inflated unless you want to also dump a ton more money into your project - while other names are cheap and easy to find. I'd buy a different domain name.

Obviously the domain name I listed could also easily be used for political niches.

I dont get why people bash on the word "the" in front of it. I see many news sites in my country ranking way better with "the" in front of it that just regular names... You dont even need a good brandname for your domain to rank it well..

I get it ,

becouse in seo the word "the" is not counted as proper statement
word, if you use let say "thefacebook.com" seach engin should show
facebook.com as "the" not classed as important"

but this might of chaged becouse of the duplicate argo

well the a above all crap talk looks like the word "the"
does count on the seach engine.

so i also see no point in the word placed in front of a domain name
especially for a branded domain sounds weired....
