    I. What are good indications of Adwards Click Fraud?
II. What should a person do properly collect visitor data?
III. Which collectible visitor data is the most helpful to stop this?
IV. If I want to know which competitor may be clicking my ads, do I stand a chance at identification?
    V. What effective strategies could one employ to move forward?
VI. How can google know the first click is both invalid & malicious, Is a bad guy always guaranteed at least 1 or 2 Adwords clicks out of your budget?

Skip down to "4" to bypass the story ad see the numbers

I can connect a rival competitor's IP to my AWstats logs this week. I think that's where I am stuck. I still don't know if there was click fraud or who did it.... I cant narrow down to specific keywords, I didn't have Analytics linked to Adwards ... what a noobie cluster f**k.

I have it on good authority from google that last Saturday July 15th 2017 I had 7 invalid clicks to 9 valid clicks this was over about 6 hours. After looking at data from just the 15th i narrowed it down to about 6 IPs using the hours my ad ran and number of cumulative (hits/page view/bandwith) used ruled out many IPs from that day which were not active enough to have 7 invalid clicks... I think?

If you want to cut to the chase scoll down to "4"

I have had good results with Adwords for 6 months up until this week. I advertise for my small business online, my phone wasn't ringing like it always has. I didn't jump to conclusions I looked at the data I had available. I know my competition personally, they have done worse things then click fraud. I have heard stories, back when i was working for them.. odd timing I put in my 2 weeks, quit my job, told them on off on my own, they told me they hope i fail... etc. Classless, greedy little piggies they are.

    1. My average 6 month CTR is .86 to My CTR this week is four times normal @ nearly 4% (during this lull in business)

    2. My impressions/clicks are always mostly mobile,I offer a type of niche emergency repair service frequently roadside.

66% to 75% mobile - always in that range.

My adwords app on my cell last night was showing 66% desktop clicks. This morning that data is nowhere to be found. this AM its back closer to normal, still 15% more desktop hits then usual. At this point a few red flags were raised i paused ads. I showed 8 invalid clicks @ roughly 35% invalid click rate. so over night with ads paused I gained 2 more invalid clicks, and device percentages became more normal.. doesn't matter.. moving on

    3. I have 21 clicks on a 7 day period, that same period shows 10 Invalid clicks. A 32.5% Invalid click rate.

    4. ---cut to the chase here--- 7 day stats

    CTR roughly 400% high
Unusual Device uses - 15-20% more desktop clicks compared to 6 month average
    32.5% Invalid click rate
My phone was dead - No calls & I have had good success in the past

note I had made a (huge?) mistake not having adwords linked to analytics. I have since changed.

    Afterwards---

    5. I have tried to search AWstats for the guilty IP. I have the dates of the invalid clicks. I haven't figured a good way yet to filter out IPs out which i don't want to see.... Awstats is set to default yesterday was the first time i used it.

I am paranoid. The question is am I JUST paranoid or does this look like potential Adword CLick Fraud?

    Thanks.

If you are running your site correctly you should easily be able to get a list of Adwords visitors and look at their IPs. If the same few IPs, or the same block keeps hitting you then simply IP ban them.

But I wouldn't worry. If anybody is dumb enough to fake click you it only helps you in the long run assuming you have a good budget. They are boosting your click-through rate, and thereby lowering your CPC in the longterm, that even boosts your QS.

Also know that Google is always looking for fake clickers and if they determine an IP is hitting you too much they may even ignore it and either stop serving ads to it or not make it show up on your Adwords as a click.

If you're still worried you need to... call Google.
