ok so i recently did a small xrumer blast around 4k links split between 3 keywords and also a link push now my site is nearly 3 months old and has a good mix of strong backlinks now for my third kw its stayed on page 1 my secound kw it has dropped to page 6 from page 1 and my first keyword its dropped to page 10 from page 1 now ive had dances before but before this google was showing around 2700 links for my site now its only showing 1600? is this normal when its dancing? before the link building the site always was showing around 2200 links in google so why the big drop with links? is this because my site is dancing? and is this definatley a dance? as its been in them postions for around 2-3 days and has not moved and my third keyword has not budged from page 1 when the other two have dropped? if it is a dance its a wierd dance as usually when my sites dance they drop down for all keywords not just the 2

I have noticed some strange happenings with my sites as well.

Some of my older sites that were blasted directly and were ranking strong (#1 and #2) for very competitive terms have dropped. Some dropped 3-4 positions and others dropped several pages.

This could be another algo change to devalue or punish for using xrumer type links.

The same thing happened to me.

I was ranking on page 1 for about 8 keywords some more competitive than others and now i'm on page 7-10 for ALL those keywords.

I don't know what happened but I had been doing a lot of xrumer/scrapebox blasts the days before my rankings dropped.

I'm not sandboxed just on page 8-10 for all my keywords and it is seriously hurting my earnings and I don't know what to do to get back up to page 1.

I bought some high-pr links hoping this will help me.

@johnnyrabbit - were you blasting directly as well?

Off topic, anyone else getting database errors when trying to use quote, send pm, etc

I did a mixture of blasting to web 2.0s and blasting directly.

But yes I did blast directly and I didn't get sandboxed because my domain is about 2 years old and my site is about 3 months old but i got moved from all page 1 rankings to page 7-10 rankings for all my keywords.

So now I am now buying high-pr links in hopes it will help me get back up there

I had a huge dance a while back and some of the keywords didn't dance, stayed at #1 even though the majority was like #500. I concluded the best linked keywords - most diverse links -are more resistant to the dance. But this is jut me rationalizing it.

On Monday my site started to show dance-like symptoms again. It had direct blasts months ago. But I think there is no need to panic. One keyword went to all-time high today (from #21 to #10) and has only those old xrumer links. I think I managed to index a bunch of links suddenly and that sent G over the edge.

I'm not too knowledgeable with xrumer blasts, but isn't 4k links in one day to one site a bad thing? The guy doing work on my sites does 4k blasts across like 20 sites like once a week among other things. Maybe we're just playing it safe, but 4k to one site may be your reason for it.

As for the dance, how long have you been ranking for that keyword?

@italian hawk - I was thinking about that as well, but my sites that lost ranking have not been blasted in a few months and the domains were 2+ years old (indexed). This is why I am thinking that it might be related to xrumer type links being devalued.

google is showing the right amount of backlinks now and site seems to be dancing still i dont think a 4k blast will hurt as its spread out for multiple keywords and the links built to my site are strong good quality backlinks such as press releases/articles directorys/bookmarks/high pr blogs ect ect plus google will not find majority of these straight away so far it seems to have found like 400 over the space of 3 days will keep you guys posted

It seems like google is lagging on last days, i did some direct scrapebox blasts weeks earlier, now sites jump up and down, links jump up and down, sometimes pages disappear from index. What a mess... But in generally, the domains are 3 month old, and they're climbing higher in rankings :)

I am not doing any Xrumer blasts but when I build backlinks from a blog network I can directly see its effects for my site within 24 hours or less. From page 1 to page 4.

I actuall mixed up the anchor text. 1 directly to my site and 2 for EZA articles. I noticed that Google is very quick in spotting as well as penalizing any tricky attempts in gaming their algo..

I am now working on two sites and that dance really annoys me. No1 danced for all of the keywords, when came back in the top position for my second keyword and now stays there but it is gone from the serps when it comes to my primary keyword...

My second website showed up as an eight after a couple of days after I started building keywords...I kept building quality links and now it is gone from the serps for 10 days straight....I hope to get really good results in the end though...

When you disappear from the SERPS it is a good sign in my experience because you come back about a week later much stronger! After 2 months the Google dance should be finished (in most cases).

Well all my 2+ year old domains that have been ranked well for quite some time have bounced. Lost 20-60% of my total traffic on each of my 80 domains. Down 50% income overall.

I think Google is devaluing the links. I'm waiting for something to be discovered to tell me what to do now before I continue SEO because these sites sat for like 6 months with no work and suddenly all of them dropped at once this last week.

I've been #3 for a term for about a year. I haven't changed my strategy in 8 months; I add 1 unique page of content and 1 link from a high PR 2.0 site or article directory every week. 10 days ago I dropped from #3 to #15. #3 is now a forum on my topic full of spam links to russian porn and has little content on my niche at all.

This is somthing I read it may help

"For search engine optimization purposes, some companies offer to sell high PageRank links to webmasters.[28] As links from higher-PR pages are believed to be more valuable, they tend to be more expensive. It can be an effective and viable marketing strategy to buy link advertisements on content pages of quality and relevant sites to drive traffic and increase a webmaster's link popularity. However, Google has publicly warned webmasters that if they are or were discovered to be selling links for the purpose of conferring PageRank and reputation, their links will be devalued (ignored in the calculation of other pages' PageRanks). The practice of buying and selling links is intensely debated across the Webmaster community. Google advises webmasters to use the nofollow HTML attribute value on sponsored links. According to Matt Cutts, Google is concerned about webmasters who try to game the system, and thereby reduce the quality and relevancy of Google search results"

I've been steadily climbing in ranks for a very competitive keyword (was page 4) then all of a sudden I'm around pages 26-28. Been there for a few days, just like you. No idea what's going on. Maybe all of my services are being indexed all at the same time. I spaced everything apart but I guess Google still didn't like it.

I do manual link building, but still I was also affected with this Google Dance. Hope everything goes fine soon.

Are you relatively new to the SEO game? No offense intended. The above quote is pretty public knowledge and yet Google doesn't really seem to know when a site is buying or selling links. Not to mention, the site selling links is the one who is going to get in the real trouble. As soon as you remove the links from the blog that you got in trouble for advertising on your should be in the clear sooner than later. In this case you're going to get bumped way down.

Not to mention, we aren't boosting our page rank. Most people don't care about page rank anymore unless they are involved with the buying and selling of links.
