There are thousands of better affiliate opportunities, and I always try a couple of Amazon products first to get a feel for how responsive my market is. Then, I add others that are more targeted to the audience from other affiliates.
If you are new to this, think in terms of building an asset that is above and beyond what is already out there in your sphere of knowledge. Don't worry so much about how to monetize when you start, look to figure out traffic, and how you can make that work. That is the key.
