Is someone doing negative SEO on my site?

After the may update you can say thank you for those links because spammy links work best for rankings now.

It's official. I have gotten every possible outcome as an answer for this lol. It has a negative impact, it has a neutral effect, and it has a positive impact. Disavow them and don't disavow them.

This is what happens when you are asking a opinion to many members.

No one can give the exact solution for your problem.

I have one more advice too. Think practically, if sites can be easily get penalized with bunch of spammy links means, instead of doing proper SEO to their individual site, everyone will start to do negative SEO on competitors.

Google algorithm is a strange one. But it is not dumb

You can disavow those links if your sites ranking suffer. Not change in ranking but still you want to disavow them means try it by partial instead disavowing everything at one time.

I see a lot of the comment's and I specifically agree with Hanzo, "Disavowing is a double edge sword". However in my opinion we also come up to the point : "if its not having negative effects why do anything".

My response to the latter question is why would you want to give them room to do anything? As unfortunate as it sounds, Those blog links suck. But I guarantee you can make better links than those blog links, even if they are other blog links on strict DR/PR restrictions. What I would do is decide a method : Am I paying my PBN guy extra, or am I crunching some hours to 1) make my own PBN, 2) Generate my own highly targeted site list to blog comment/ profile link , 3) am I doing a massive PR campaign to highly reputable prospects (and slowly disavowing in handfuls per quality link), or 4) am I using a handful if HIGH QUALITY parasites, to make the difference?

In my opinion I would focus on 2,3,4.

If you don't like the links they are throwing at you ~ easy , make better ones slowly drop the old ones.

If you want to increase your metrics : Cool, go 3 or 4, PR's go along way on other blogs be it guest post, be it a standard article they wrote, doesn't matter. That article will last for 2k of those spam links easy. Remove a handful at a time.

Now if you want to remove the bad links, and replace them with potentially page 1 parasites, that in my opinion is the better option. If you do your parasite right, you can gain a ton of traffic in 30-90 days, and remove the old links and come out better than ever.

Cheers,

Rocket

P.S : Do not remove them all at once, if they gave you 10k bad ones, get some good ones remove 5-10% of the bad, wait to see results good or bad. If good continue, if bad, try to determine why and make the appropriate changes.

I think True and myself can agree, if you do remove them never do in bulk, go slow, wait to see results and adjust..

I recently ran 2 experiments on websites that are 3 years old and 8 months old.
100K blogspot comment backlinks with anchor "casino slot gambling" were sent to the website that is 8 months old.
5M profile backlinks with anchor "best fish rods" were sent to the website that is 3 years old.

This was done in February and both the websites are still growing while ahrefs keeps on showing their increased DA.
So for me, no bad links are ignored by google algo and the algo picks up the relevant backlinks.

Google would be too dumb and get bad coverage in news websites if it was so easy to do negative seo.

I keep on getting porn links, links from automated websites that give me 500 links from single domain. Every week on Monday, I look at backlinks in the search console and disvow such spammy links (just to be on the safer side in future).

As of negative SEO, if your site has the bunch of spammy links added constantly, I suggest disavowing them even though now its doesn't have any effect, but there is a chance it can harm your site in the future.

If the site is new better to remove, monitor backlinks and keep the site safe.

Disavowing can solve the problem!, Ignoring it can cause problems in near future

I would suggest keep looking at your backlink profile, if it doesn't work right now doesn't mean it would not affect your ranking later. If you are receiving constant negative SEO activity it could affect your rankings badly, so do not wait & start act on prevention. Also check your analytics data - check for huge spike in bounce rate, it could be another vector of negative seo.

If it aint broke, dont fix it. There have been reports of rankings tanking after disavowing, your rankings might tank in 3 months time as someone else said....but no one knows for sure about your own specific situation. So with so many options. best is to do nothing since its not broken...yet!

Well thank you guys for all the thoughtful replies. There are a lot of things to consider with this an I appreciate everyone's input.
