Is someone doing negative SEO on my site?

So I've noticed over a period of about a month that our backlink profile has been getting stuffed with comment backlinks on random websites. They link to one of our blog posts and it's really weird. I don't know why else someone would link to that page on our website. It usually shows up with other random links to other sites as well. It's like someone bought a 1 month subscription to negative SEO for our site if such a thing exists.

It's dropped our ranking according to ahrefs normal domain tracking but at the same time hasn't actually had an effect on our rankings as I track them specifically and it gets updated every 5 days and we've actually been doing the best we've ever done. I'm a little worried though that a manual action would be taken as these links are highly suspicious.

Let them go or disavow them?

I was actually wondering this the other day when I was browsing the marketplace here for backlinks related services and saw a few offering blog commenting.

Then, I remember seeing an offer on SEOClerk or Fiverr to "blast" 100,000 blog comments from Scrapebox so, this got me thinking. What if i hire that service and start spamming my competitor's domain with thousands of (what I believe are) highly toxic links? Or, even worse, what if that happened to me?
 
I'm hoping they look at my backlink profile and realize that I'm not stupid enough to buy those links. It'd be pretty clear that I spend a lot more money on links than that lmao. Not that that would help but at least they wouldn't think I'm a moron lol.
 
I wouldn't worry about them unless you run into issues. Google isn't stupid and won't penalize you if you didn't do anything. The worse they might do is send you an email about suspicious links that you can then get removed or disavow.
 
Does it really matter if it has zero effects on your ranking?

I didn't realize that Google would send me an email about them prior to taking any action. That would be cool.

I thought about that too. I figured it would send them an alert that I pay attention to my links which would make me more likely to be spending money on links by nature.

Seems like the best course of action is to just ignore it until it becomes a problem.
 
From own experience I'd say to disavow them asap.

I had a client who refused to disavow them simply because his rankings were increasing (he had good ranks before that too.)

What happened next? He came back to me 3 months later after his site completely tanked. :)

So you and my guy I use for PPC and other website things say to disavow them. He sent me an article about disavowing. I think I may end up just doing this. I'm just a little nervous because when I go to disavow them in google search counsel they say to only use it if you paid for links which is like wtf man, why are you basically saying I have to make a false admission that these are purchased links by disavowing them?
 
This used to be a thing, but Google stopped penalizing you for really shitty links, they just ignore them now.

Maybe we should do blog as per normal like just normal blogger post content that it , or share in social media. nothing else.. don't know what is SEO is all about etc.
Perhaps this is why Google change etc ? I mean they views a a whole picture out there , how many website owners knows what is SEO in the first place?

Quite alot just blog and that it daily , never do backlink, never share too some yet they site managed to hold the rank well etc.

Can Google detect if this has been done by someone else with a malicious intent ? I doubt.

And do they really send emails for suspicious links ?
 
After the may update you can say thank you for those links because spammy links work best for rankings now.
