Is school really necessary?

I graduated in medicine and didn't pursued that career path, because my interest changed and I wanted to become an entrepreneur and be my own boss. Financially that was the best decision as I could have never earned being a doctor what I'm earning now.

But, school / university teaches you discipline and you make life long friends / connections and beautiful memories. It teaches you networking, social skills and how to be a team player along with many other things.

Formal education upto completing high school is definitely beneficial. But beyond that, NOWADAYS, with the kind of technology available, IF one has good enough skills and talents, then getting a degree MAY be a waste of time and money. In the 70's/80's getting a degree was more helpful in order to earn money. But, with the technologies and online platforms that we have nowadays, there are even school going kids earning thousands of (US) dollars a month (part-time).
 
School is not equal with Education. In some of the cases, the school (college/university studies) may be a waste of time. What I found important in the University's idea is the future connections you will make, and not the 'bulk stuff' they force to learn for nothing. But this is from my perspective. In other places it can be different.
 
I dropped out of university in 2021 because I felt that I was learning useless things and there were no better education options available to me in my town.

Great for hard skills like accounting and possible software dev.
 
In my honest opinion, school is only necessary until a certain level. Yes, it's good they teach you basic math, teach you grammar, how to write, and other basics like geography, etc. also, there is a social aspect to it. However, at a certain point, it ONLY becomes control and indoctrination, at this point, they are turning you into a workforce and setting you up for slavery.

Primary school is absolutely important. I would say up to 11 / 12 / A-levels, Intermediate whatever it is called in your country.
Unless you are going for some very specific stream like being a Doctor or Engineer that requires specialization and rigorous learning and exams, I wouldn't say it is too important.
Also, another important question remains, are you in a job and want to get a promotion later on? If you are a 9 - 5 job holder then you will need further schooling to excel further in your work later on.

I was doing Engineering and I had to drop out from my 3rd year because of some serious issues with my health. I couldn't continue. So on paper, I am just educated till A-levels. However, last week I made more than 4X the per capita income of my country. I learned all of those skills from YouTube, courses, books, friends, forums, experiments, and so on.

I am not against 9 - 5 nor against the education system. I have never had a 9 - 5 job in my life yet. However, I have seen people with a 9-5 work and I admire that work ethic. I'm lazy af. My goal for 2023 is to get a 9 - 5 job for fun and get enrolled in a degree. lol

Don't quit school though. Enjoy your life. You'll meet some really cool people whom you can later start your business with and much more.
 
Schooling is necessary.
You need to attend physically and you cant even imagine how much you learn everyday if you pay attention.
Online education is good for professionals but if you are a student and by any chance you have an opportunity to attend the school or college then do not miss it.

My school days are the most beautiful days in my life, I still remember. It is a treasure that I will cherish forever!
 
No, for me, at least, it wasn't necessary.
2 bachelor's degrees & 2 Master's degrees here.

Don't just learn for the sake of learning. It's not how the brain works.

Pick something you want to achieve, then figure out what you need to learn to do it, and keep learning until you get the think done. Repeat that.

Like as I'm learning AI, I am not doing A-Z learning everything. I started with my project, and tried to learn what I need to make it work. I ignore anything that doesn't help me with the actual project.

Thank you. I feel the same way. It was hard for me at school for health reasons but even as i get back into going to school, I feel the content that I am learning compared to what I could be learning at the time is useless. The worst thing that University the first time I went did was get rid of my entrepreneurial spirit.

Funny enough the military reserves for those who don't know what they want to do can probably teach better discipline than going to an arts school. I really wanted to go to a music/arts school but even when I was young, I felt that I wouldn't get enough discipline.

The guy who owns Run Rex Digital Marketing agency was originally a lawyer who saw the potential in starting a PPC agency.
 
I was excellent in sports, so I dropped out of college and pursued sports. I won 2 medals at international sports events, for my country (do not ask me my name). But, my country did jackshit for me. But, I am an in-built winner and my blogging is now providing me a decent income and I am planning to move forward with it. Learning new stuff everyday is exciting. Getting results from my hard work in blogging, is quite motivating.
If you start getting positive results from something, then do not leave it to try something else, instead pursue it further and scale it up further with all the possible hard work that you can do.

Dont forget that youll be alone in this.

The other person, with the support of almost everybody else, will hit you with something like "You think because you watched a Youtube video you know better than the person who studied the topic for 5 years?"

You may be right, and you may feel like you won in your head. But the majority will stand against you.

Whether you come out of it inferior or supperior depends on how you judge things for yourself. But for the majority youll come off inferior.
