First off, don't use semalt, it is a spam/scam, block them anyway you can. Second off all meta keyword are useless. They won't help you in anyway to rank your website.

Yahoo says that meta keyword tags receive the lowest ranking signal in their system. Keyword tags are almost insignificant in their ranking system. Google says that meta tags have been used as negative ranking system. They won't hold much weight in increasing your rank, but spamming your page with meta tags is a sure way to devalue your site. Sooooo long story short, meta tags are useless in your pursuit to raise your page rank, but they could work against you if you spam with them. Hope this helped.

    From springmerchant:

It can make more damage than good, focus in real good content.

I don't remember where it was or the name of the guy, so I will not quote it, but a member of Google's staff said something like "Don't focus so much in SEO, just make a good content, interesting and good experience for the user, it's our job to find you"

4 very clever words inside meta tags will not change your position on Google.

    Meta Keyword is still useful.
Yahoo and Bings use them on a higher signal than Google.
    So it is beneficial

    According to moz :

Google reported in September of 2009 that neither meta depictions nor meta keywords element into Google's ranking calculations for web search. Google utilizes meta descriptions to return results when searchers utilization advanced search operators to coordinate meta label content, and also to pull preview snippets on search result pages, yet its vital to note that meta depictions don't to impact Google's positioning algorithms for normal web search.

    Good luck! :)

I do think that they are important. However, they are not as useful as they used to be.

As an answer to this question you can say that meta keywords are important; may be not that much for Google but Bing and Yahoo still consider them as a big source of ranking.

The answer is very simple and obvious. A big NO. Google won't use meta keywords as a ranking signal but other search engines still using them as a serp signal. you can decide is you are working for only google or you just want traffic and leads who matters from google or somewhere else.

Here are a couple of ideas about meta keywords from Google, Bing, and Yahoo that I found online. Here's what they are about to say:

    Google's Standpoint: Not Used

Google has mentioned they no longer utilize meta keyword tags in their algorithm for search rankings. Google did say that they will not guarantee any perminence in this decision in that there is no promise that it will never be used again, however, they did say it was highly unlikely they will use meta tags as a deciding factor in the future. There are still individuals who believe meta keyword tags can have negative ranking effects by using them on Google, however, I have been unable to substantiate this in my findings or find anything official that backs up this theory.

    Yahoo's Standpoint: Rarely Used

What changed with Yahoo's ranking algorithms is that while we still index the meta keyword tag, the ranking importance given to meta keyword tags receives the lowest ranking signal in our system.

Words that appear in any other part of documents, including the body, title, description, anchor text etc., will take priority in ranking the document - the re-occurrence of these words in the meta keyword tag will not help in boosting the signal for these words. Therefore, keyword stuffing in the keyword tag will not help a page's recall or ranking, it will actually have less effect than introducing those same words in the body of the document, or any other section.

However, when no other ranking signal is present, unique words that only appear in the meta keyword tag section of documents can still be used to recall these documents.

In Summary, Yahoo accredits virtually no weight to meta keyword tags. If there are no other ranking factors on your website other than meta keyword tags then Yahoo will use the tags as a last resort for your pages ranking.

    Bing's Standpoint: Not Much Weight

Bing has affirmed that they do not support the meta keyword tag and have stood by it for a very long time until Duane Forrester, a Project Manager for Bing posted the following:

I'll make this statement: meta keywords is a signal. One of roughly a thousand we analyze.

Getting it right is a nice perk for us, but won't rock your world. Abusing meta keywords can hurt you.

After seeing this conversation, it is apparent that while Bing is subscribing to a similar view as Yahoo in the fact that it does not put much weight on the use of meta keyword tags, you do run the risk of them being used against you as a negative ranking factor.

Keywords have always been a hot topic when discussing SEO, but the context has shifted considerably over the years.Google officially announced in 2009 that meta keywords was not a factor in ranking at all. So, if you want to get rankings only in google and not in other search engine(like YAHOO,BING and other smaller), remove the meta keywords. I wouldn't bother with them.
