I have an idea, since I know how web design generally works, I can make my own custom website with fully functional CMS and everything that I need to make a successful blog site. But the question is, is it worth it? Is it worth it put it much effort into something like that if there is little to no difference? I was thinking there are plenty of blog sites who are WP based which means that maybe with custom setup you have maybe some kind of the edge (because WP is mostly bunch of useless JS (jquery)). I just want to ask someone who tried, to share opinion about this topic :D

There is no logical way that one single person, even as talented as you, would be able to compete with a team of professionals.

I would rather pick a super optimized pre-built theme that was created by a team of seasoned web developers that have spent their entire career building websites for a living and get to the next stage. You can build your own theme as a hobby project at the side till it is presentable.

Programming your own blog has it's benefits like having the freedom to make the CMS look and do whatever you want, but it has punishments like the fact you will have to program ANYTHING, next to the idea you could just install plugins and themes in few clicks via WordPress. plugins like Yoast SEO, WP Rocket and others are perfect for indexing and seo, against the fact you will have to "rewrite" them so your blog will adjust, not to mention you will have to make it w3c perfect.

If this is a blog, go with a ready made CMS and have it ready for content writing in few hours, it will be easier for you.

Good luck
